Why did you have to act like your were interested?

Because I'm not MEAN (Plus, it was a cute girl at the door.)

I wasn't suggesting you had to be MEAN. You could politely say, "I'm not interested."

Ah. That will bring up the interest level. Heheh

If any atheists strongly feel that religious views need to be challenged with alternative views, I'm all for it, because I believe in your freedom of speech. What I'm saying is that putting a poster on a bus isn't going to make people think anywhere near as much as a thorough chat. A poster won't really make anyone change their mind, all it will do is make atheists (who aren't the target audience of the advert) nod in agreement.

Paul -

We all have our own way of responding to people who wish to influence our views. And also we have a right to respond in our own way. If someone wishes to act interested out of politeness, that's their personality and that's fair enough. I'm sure everyone does it from time to time.

Yeah, I can't say "I'm not interested. That's not me. I don't even hang up on telemarketers.

I wasn't trying to chastise you for anything. I asked why you felt you were forced to pretend to be interested in what they had to say. That's all. I then pointed out that it is possible to express disinterest without being MEAN about it. Believe me, they are quite used to people not being interested in what they are peddling... and most people are not polite about it.

I could go into how it is better to be honest than to pretend to be interested and string them along, but... that was never my intention. If you'd rather pretend to be interested than stand up for yourself, out of politeness or for any other reason... that's up to you. I was simply asking why... and now I have my answer. Wishing to be nice is a great reason. Tarvu smiles upon you. Heheh

@Godhead: Umm... yeah. o.o

Neither do I. I just tell them to hold on a second while I get a pen. Then I leave the phone sitting there until I hear the noise that tells me the receiver is off the hook. I get THEM to hang up!
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

sometimes If I actually answer I will say something like "This is the asylum. Would you like to make a reservation?" however if it's someone in person talking to me I will tell them no with a thank you.

I think it may give a breath if fresh air to those who have been concealing their true feelings. It may give them confidence if they see that atheistic views are being advertised openly.

On the down side, it may cause religious nuts (I'm not worried about being PC, as I'm sure you've noticed) to create a bit of a fuss, so... I don't really know what to think.
