I'm pointing out that you're posting inaccuracies to bolster your weird "OMG, they're attacking my white masculinity" take. You must be pretty insecure to take a show this personally.

I haven't posted an "inaccuracy" let alone the plural. The Moclus species makes zero sense. Egg laying males etc. YMMV on the precise interpretation of "Mary-esque miracle" in the context of the absurdity of the species, but that's really not my problem.

I'm not feeling attacked, I'm being amused - highly amused. If the situation were reversed and all black people and women were being portrayed as stupid/pathetic and all other males as awesome in a mainstream show like this would you be calling out any women or black people who thought that was hilarious, telling them they're insecure and are being douches - let alone if they were actually pissed off and said "this isn't on!" ? Basically mega double standards on your part Shell B and if you can't see that might I suggest a trip to the "opticians."

Oh well, at least you changed your original comment, "pointing out" that the captain is a white male. And you call me "not very bright." And will you two stop putting words/feelings into my mouth/brain?! I'm not angry or upset, just amused - highly!

I'm a little surprised that it we laughed at the intersectionality of The  Orville  for as long as we did, before the trolls showed up.

The Orville clubs you over the head with its intersectional themes, and that's funny. The writers of the show seem to lack self awareness. They know that they are devotees of intersectionality. They know that they are working intersectional themes into the story. But they don't seem to be aware that they are clubbing people over the head with it, and they don't seem to be aware that they are probably doing more to ridicule intersectionality than to promote it.

I watched Identity part 2. I enjoyed it, but it was extremely predictable just a few minutes into the story. I don't want to spoil it too much for those who haven't seen it yet, but the predictability makes it sort of hard to spoil. So here it goes. Don't read further if you don't want spoilers.

Why are the Kaylon having the Orville lead the fleet to earth? Deception, obviously. Why did the Kaylon keep the crew alive? Deception, obviously. When the captain and first officer start talking about who might be able to come and help earth's fleet, who are you going to ask to join in an 'unexpected' alliance? The Krill, obviously. Will the earth fleet be almost but not quite able to fend off the Kaylon and then have the Krill fleet arrive just in the nick of time like the Prussians at Waterloo? Yes, obviously. Will Isaac betray the Kaylon to save the crew of the Orville, almost sacrificing himself in the process? Yes, obviously.

I estimate that at least a thousand humans died in the battle, and humans on earth came within a whisker of being entirely exterminated. Isaac was a spy who gathered intelligence on the humans during his entire time on the Orville. He participated in the attack on the Orville and the attack on the earth fleet. He only changed sides to save the life of a child that had become sort of like a son to him. His betrayal of the Kaylon only saved the lives of the crew of the Orville, and did little to change the outcome of the Kaylon assault on earth. Returning him to his regular duties aboard the Orville was a bit of a stretch.

Humanizing the borrowed science officer is a persistent trope in the genre.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. RE: The Orville
It's sort of difficult to make an AI interesting without giving it motivations that humans can relate to- self preservation, the right to self determination, anger at being despised and distrusted by its creators, an obsession with ruthless efficiency, the subjugation of humans for their own protection, the desire to know more, the belief that they are the natural next step in the evolution of man. I suppose the ultimate AI story is going to be written by some smart ass scribbler who is going to tell a story in which humans are pawns in a universe where AIs are divided into factions that represent all of these motivations.

I have read a story or two in which AIs were peripheral characters whose motivations were largely inscrutable to organic lifeforms.

A couple of not so great and yet thought provoking movies have been made in the past few years that feature AIs as the next step in the evolution of man. It is the extinction of humans as biological organisms, and the continuation of their legacy as machines. I can't remember the names of those movies, even though I saw them fairly recently. One scene sticks in my mind, in which an AI is asking a man why he is crying. The man has come to the realization that humans are on the verge of extinction, and that there won't be another generation of humans. But the AIs are far more adaptable and are going to thrive. It was a very memorable scene, even though the story itself was a blatant retelling of the exodus from Egypt with the AIs being the Israelites.

See, when "amusement" looks like your posts, people get the idea you're angry, because you sound pretty angry.

Yona, why are people who disagree with you trolls by default?

One of the hardest things to mod in this forum are accusations of trolling because only a small percentage of people who use the Internet know what trolling actually is.

Just watched Identity part 1 and haven't read your spoilers Yonadav, but I'll try predict how pt2 will unfold. Does lady doctor and her sprogs talk Isaac round, making him realise the worth of humanity, and he disables/destroys the invading fleet of robots in a sacrificial moment of glory? Don't answer - watching part two now. Of course, the fact the awesome lady fell in love with Isaac in the first place does rather suggest that a "profoundly autistic" robot is preferable to human males lolz, in keeping with the theme ITT.

I didn't call anyone a troll for disagreeing with me.  Were your posts about The Orville? Or did you and that other troll just direct ad homs at people? You're trolling us. You disrupted the discussion. That's what you wanted to do. You're a troll.

Jesus Christ, Yonadav, Shell B is clearly female and therefore infallibly awesome! She therefore couldn't possibly post trollish comments! You really need to go back to S01E01 and start over as it appears you've learnt nothing from the show FFS, stupid white man  Doh

I missed the prerogative for a big fighty space battle with lots of lasers and explosions, which everybody knows everybody loves, in my prediction, and also the opportunity for miss slippy knickers to display her courageous awesomeness yet again despite the cowardly protestations of the white male pilot. I got the Isaac thing basically right though...I give myself three out of ten as a fortune teller....then again predicting the chess moves of a five year old may in fact not be so easy lolz.
