The entire universe has been destroyed by an unfortunate super collider experiment gone horribly wrong.
There is no habitable space to be found anywhere, except for on my spaceship.
I was alone on my ship when the accident happened, so I am only person left alive in the universe.
I have an endless supply of food, water, air, and energy so my survival is not in danger.
However, I am getting a bit lonely, and I remember that I have one package of dehydrated living child that I just have to add water to.
I add water, and get an instant living child so that I can have some company.
It turns out that I really am a loner, and the presence of the child is seriously grating on my nerves.
The spaceship is mine. The air is mine. The water is mine. The food is mine. The energy is mine.
Deciding that since the child has no claim to any of the things that are mine, I ask the child to please step into the airlock.
What defense can be made on behalf of the child?

The child catches on, creates a diversion, pushes Yonadav into the airlock, and hits the button.  

So I would defend the child for justified self-defense, whereas Yonadav's "self-defense" would be unjustified.  We have to learn to take responsibility for our mistakes and live with them.  That's being honest.

Pushing a kid out of an airlock is just as much taking responsibility for a mistake and learning to live with it. He made a mistake hydrating the little bastard, and he's okay with living with the fact that he pushed it out of the airlock to remedy that mistake.

If he's not okay with that, then he shouldn't push it out of the airlock. Seems pretty cut and dry. Don't want to push a kid out of an airlock? Then don't do it.

That would be making someone else pay for the mistake.

Sure, and the person who tosses a kid out of the airlock is okay with living with that. That much is baked into the setup. There's nobody else on the ship to stop him, and the only way to stop him..if there were, would be to duct tape him to a chair or throw him in the brig (if his ship has one). Then he'd have to be watched constantly, as soon as he got loose he'd make a beeline for the kid and the airlock. That's what he wants to do.

That's not baked in. I haven't tossed the kid out the airlock. I have clearly paused with my question.

If you're -not- okay with pushing the kid out of the airlock, if that's not baked in..then don't do it.  You don't need anyone else's argument for that.
