Indeed apparently you aren't permitted to find one case more convincing then the other and the only factor to take into consideration is "political bias"

I don't think any of us can say with any degree of certainty whether he told the truth or not. Therefore, I am uncomfortable behaving as if he's guilty.

Although I am fully on board the Marxist train that says economic status trumps all other possible divisions... it seems the police did some shady stuff that would never hold up in court, so they had to drop the charges. That's my interpretation, at least.

Well the news media has not done a good job of pointing out that he forfeited his bail and plead. It is not true that he was not punished. The "dropped charges" were after the fact. He has to do community service and his charges only get dropped if he refrains from any criminal activity for a period. If he commits another crime within the stated period, the charges could be brought back.
That is a common punishment for first time offenders.
If we want to argue was that appropriate or not, that would be a different subject and a better one to argue. I think he got off easy.
