Putting myself out there. . .

Putting myself out there. . .
Hi, guys.  I've been talking about anxiety, fear of completion and so on in other threads; I think some of my antisocial or other negative behaviors are connected to deep insecurity and frustrations from not finishing tasks.  My goal in this thread is to put some of my stuff "out there"-- to feel that whatever people think, at least I finished the process to the end by sharing things.  I might have posted some of them before, I can't remember.

Anyway, here goes nothing.  I hope at least some of it isn't too bad.  Sorry about the giant windows, I don't know how to set their size.

Some heavy metal-ish early stuff:

I tried writing classical (it picks up in the last half):

Some dance music (the flute part was supposed to be vocals by a friend, but we never got around to it).  This one can never be finished, because I lost the original files in a hard-drive meltdown.

Jazz.  This one shows my weakness as a pianist, but I tried to get a bit of tenderness out of the melody.

Loved the music, man.

Udyr ftw. Liked the last one the most.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

All of them had parts I liked. But I am either a fan of quiet sneak to a loud release, slow build up. But if not that, an up and down sound. You talk of metal, but ABBA was full of quiet clobber you later, and other songs that were up and down. That is what classical music training gets you. And both Benny and Bjorn and Metallica all had.

That is what "Georgia Benjamin" you posted had in this thread. It was slow STYX quality, but everything you posted had the potential to be up and down like Queen.

I cant write music to save my life or play it. But I do know I get a very positive emotional response out of songs that either slowly comfort me, or take me on a roller coaster ride.

I’m very much liked the fourth piece in your first post! Loved the dynamics and the melody. Nice work! ❤️

Thanks so much for your support guys.  I'm a little surprised most people liked the last one most-- I really am not good at piano and you can hear a few straight-up fumbles.  In actual listens I've got so far on soundcloud, the classical one got the most listens, but even the solo part was comp-generated.  Trying to play live piano on my own was the most fun for me, but it's definitely the most embarrassing one to let people hear.

Actually, the song name is just Georgia (actually Georgia on my Mind).  My name is Benjamin.

This was the hardest to put out there, because Georgia is maybe the most-covered jazz song in the world, and 99% of performances you can find are so much better than mine.  My favorite is Eric Clapton's.

I tease you about Abba, but I like the way they play with dynamic thresholds, too.  There's a reason they were popular, and it transcends the popularity of that musical genre.

--edit--
I lied.  The best version is definitely Ray Charles' original. Shivers.

Music is not set in stone. It really is not.

In my entire life, I have gone from pop to hip hop, to classical to everything in between.

When heavy metal Rock guitarist gives you this, how do you argue?

I'd take the actual Abba over Yngwie all day. I'm not a fan of Malmsteen, though as a young man a lot of my guitarist friends listened to him while they were trying to learn their speed technique.

I just don't think that man is capable of the beauty and musical subtlety that a really classy musician has. It seems he either plays a lot of scales really really fast-- or he plays a lot of arpeggios really really fast. Smile

For that category of guitarist, I'd go with Steve Vai or even Van Halen as being superior musicians overall, even though I don't think either of them is as clean as Yngwie at high speeds.
