Every guy I have known that has seen combat has said the same thing ----

You never know how somebody is going to do - until they are in the shit. The big macho guy might fold up and cry like a little girl. The wimpy little guy might turn into a lion - the Grim Reaper - the very avenging angel of death. You simply can't tell till the shit hits.

I'm under the impression that Peterson was a regular deputy sheriff with 30 years experience at the Broward county sheriff's department. He was assigned to school as a resource officer, but he was a regular cop.

It's a tough call for me. He's paid to protect those children and he didn't. Do I think that's a criminal offense or should be? Probably not. We can't legally force people to run into mortal danger. That's just not right. I don't think cowardice is legally wrong or even shameful. It's just a reaction to fear that some people have. Now, do I think he should hold a job in law enforcement again? Nope.

I stand corrected.


However - the Supreme Court ruling is quite clear.

He was under no obligation to risk his life.

This is simply a DA willing to throw the guy under the bus for political points - knowing well that he does not have a case that will stand up.
