Top 5 questions against God or the Bible on science

Hi,

As atheists, what would be the top 5 questions/critiques you would have for believers against God or the Bible within a scientific framework?

Why his followers can't be bothered to not keep spamming the same thread three times in the span of a single minute is certainly among those questions.

#1. Why do you think not believing in a god (or more specifically your god) or the bible has anything to do with science?
#2. See #1.

Edit: side note,........... John who?

Edit 2: How rude of me, welcome to the forum. Maybe we should get to know each other before diving in. Can I interest you in an introduction thread?

Hi Wyzas

I do not believe #1. My question is rhetorical. Im preparing a Devil's Advocate teaching tool for Christians. I've done 8 years of Academic, scholarly studies with scholars and scientists. Therefore, I do not agree with YEC or OEC. I disagree with Ken Ham from Answers in Genesis and all creationist organizations. My views are more aligned with BioLogos (e.g. Francis Collins, John H. Walton, and my Prof. Michael S. Heiser).

You should explain what BioLogos is. Or provide a link.

It gives us something to orient our questions toward. YEC and ID dominate the Christian world, so phrasing the OP the way you have will cause the average atheist to gear questions toward YEC/ID which (I assume) is not what you are interested in.

Sorry, I don't know any of those people or their beliefs. Do they (and maybe you) try to make the biblical account fit within a science framework? I'm not sure why a supernatural belief would need that.

Edit: You should probably read the rules for the forum.

Edit 2: Linking to a blog is not an introduction.

Well, it looks like there was no need to provide a link, right? You found it yourself, and I know it's fairly easy to just google BioLogos and find the link, so I did not bother. There is only 1 BioLogos on the net that discusses this topic.

My question aims at getting a few atheists to question believers as to why they find the existence of God unpersuasive from a scientific perspective, and why they find the Bible is not scientific ( which I agree-- the Bible is NOT scientific ). But I want to get atheists to respond, not myself. Im already satisfied with my own thinking and research for the past decade.

My number 1 would actually be in the realm of logical/philosophical framework and involves the concept of original sin and eternal damnation. Neither make any sense at all. Revenge does not make right. It is a very primitive concept based on raw emotion. Hurting the one who hurt me will not ease my pain. Better to rehabilitate him/her so he/she will not do it again.

An enlightened being does not demand, "justice" against his attacker but correction. Why rage against a hurricane? Just avoid them or develop a way to prevent them. Striking back at one is childish. This revenge-think by itself exposes Christianity as a very primitive, very childish idea.

But since you asked for 5 problems....

2. God is supposedly all-knowing. This means that when he created me, he KNEW what my life path would be. If my life-path leads me to Hell, why would he create me in the first place?

3. God is supposedly all-knowing. This means that when he created humanity, he knew exactly what the results would be. Why would he blame his creation for the shortcomings he KNEW they would have? Pretty silly, right?

4. Why is it that the religion people follow is determined by where they were were born? Christians are predominately born and raised in the West. Muslims are predominately born and raised in the Middle East. Buddhists are born and raised in the Far-East. Hindus are born and raised in India.

How is it that "The Truth" is determined by where you were born and raised? The Muslim in Saudi Arabia believes with the same fervor as the southern Baptist Christian in Mississippi, USA. Why is it that religious conviction is determined by where you were born? Sounds like brain-washing to me.

Atheists are EVERYWHERE!

5. Religion has FAILED! It is the secular world that has promoted peace, generated wealth for all and revealed the way to true knowledge through science.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Honestly, depending on the particular variation on the Genesis story you’re propping up, it could be anything from, say theistic evolution, where, honestly, God is largely an unnecessary (in terms of explanatory power) variable, to Young-Earth Creationism, where you have to completely ignore the entire discipline of biology (at the very least) to make it make sense.

Given that the only explanation you have given so far on where you stand in the continuum is your citing John H. Walton in your religious beliefs, who I’m not familiar with, it’s not quite as easy for me to formulate questions. Going by the little info I’ve found, I suspect that he and you fall close to the Theistic Evolution end of the spectrum.

Really, the one major problem I have on this end is: how can you test it? Without it being potentially verifiable or falsifiable, really, all you get is the theory of evolution done like this [and God is Larry in this scenario:]
