Dpb was referring to Rob

The another man was Belaqua and the quote I was using was Belaqua I never attributed that quote to dbp

Let's timeline this to clear it up
1.Bel slanders a dead person
2. I called him out twice for it
3. ARE asks what's going on
4. Dbp says Robs losing his mind . I add Bel's slandering a dead person
5. You say the comments about rob
6. I assume your talking about Bel because you don't mention Dbp
7. Quote Bel but i never attributed it to Dbp

What Rob wishes to discuss about his current situation is up to him. I know that he has been struggling for at least a year now (I do not wish to go into any real detail in public). He's a great guy whom I'm not giving up on. All it can take for a person to change their outlook could be single spark of curiosity, just like it does for religious people.

I see, you quoted him and then mentioned that another guy is slandering a dead guy as a response to dbp. That makes more sense now.

What part of "Recently a guy who posted on the old [S]inking Atheist forum died" do you not understand?

For Fuck Sake... Read previous posts.

Yeah, one ambiguous post that I read incorrectly and things kind of spiraled. Kind of funny, really.

The post-quoting code does not always get it right when dealing with nested quotes..  So, for fuck sake, read previous posts.

What's funny to me -- but also pleasing -- is how thoroughly the responses here proved my point for me.

To be clear, my point was this: A commonly held view says that if we're talking to or about someone we approve of, we ought to be kind and understanding. But if we're talking to or about someone we don't approve of, we have a right to be as rude as we want.

This came up because someone suggested we should still be sympathetic to Rob, even after he got Red-Pilled. Someone else suggested that we can say nasty things about him while he's believing these odd fantasies.

On this forum it's common to see over-the-top comments about religious people. Some of them are so wild they really amount to slander. But these are generally given a pass. It's OK to say nasty things about a group we dislike. If we disagree with someone over a point of metaphysics, there's pretty much no limit on the nastiness with which we can reply.

Now what's funny to me is that posters who aren't bothered at all by unfair statements about religious people suddenly turn into offended snowflakes if it appears I've said a bad thing about a member of a protected group. It goes from "fuck 'em if they can't take a joke" to a deep concern that social norms may not have been scrupulously observed.

Sometimes this double standard is justified by the fact that this is an atheist forum. But the only thing all atheists have in common is that they don't believe in something. There is nothing intrinsic to atheism that says we enjoy double standards or tolerate bigotry.

Making unsubstantiated claims about someone recently deceased is funny to you?

The only point you have proven is that you can't admit when you should have handled things differently.

How about some of that Christian behavior you expect people to believe that you believe in?

You have shown what a petty little man you are.

Glad you are enjoying being a piss poor example of what Christians claim to be.

Look man. A bunch of Christians built an ark-shaped museum in Kentucky where they "educate" around a million visitors a year about the reality of the flood described in Genesis. They teach that the Earth is around 6,000 years old, and science created the theory of evolution to give people an excuse to sin. That's a fucking fact. The sad truth is, whatever slander gets tossed around here by anti-theists will never be so wild and over-the-top as that stupid, stupid, stupid ark museum in Kentucky.

This mindset is real, Belaqua. And when people criticize it, you make the argument that they are strawmanning Augustine or some shit. They aren't. Atheists have every right to gripe about the ignorance that is promoted in society by Christianity and other religions.

I agree with you that the nastiness sucks. And, like you, I don't count insults as genuine metaphysical debate.

But this is the internet, Belequa. People are assholes. Go get on twitter and converse with anyone about anything and you'll see the exact same shit. It has nothing to do with atheism. Yet when "internet shit" happens here, you like to characterize it as "atheist shit." It's not. Welcome to the internet.

Groups of people form a herd mentality and (in some respects) become some kind of "huge collective of assholes." It happens with all groups, not just atheists. And I hate it as much as you. That's why I like individuals better than groups. To me, the only reason to interact with or be a part of any group is to discover those certain special individuals within it.
