I have never met someone from Central or South America who came here for asylum. I have met, and know many who came here for a paycheck.

We need to change the laws to make it easier for those who wish to come here to work.

A bit more ethically defensible than I had feared, that said, earlier in the thread, I pointed out how America’s low overall score was less due to it being an objectively less peaceful nation and more due to us having an utterly abysmal score on some factors, like number of wars fought, or proportion of our population behind bars.

Judging from opinions OLB has expressed in another thread, he should disqualify himself from having an opinion on why people flee their countries to come to the USA, because he's not there.

We need to streamline legal immigration. We need to streamline work visas.

But we CAN'T let everybody in that tries to sneak in..

And yes - applying for asylum when your real motivation is financial is trying to sneak in.....
I dont see whats your actual problem here.

People appy for asylum. Applying for asylum but having only financial gain in mind is not illegal, is it? You might be pisssed, but who cares? USA, after all, has a due process by which is decided who and who not is granted asylum in the USA, hasnt it?

Are you claiming that the asylum law needs to be modified? Are you claiming that the curent law needs to be enforced more strictly? If so, what needs to be modified? Do you have more to support your suspicion than just not being an idiot? What makes you (seemingly) sure that many are gaming the system? Got any numbers or studies?

Also, i am still puzzled as to why someone from the US would pull a statistic (which has been shown to be misinterpreted) to support a claim that the USA is on par with countries like El Salvador, Chile, Honduras or Equador regarding any meaningful statistics about conditions of human life, economically, socially, politically or regarding freedom in general, particularly since the rest of the world gets "land of the free" stuffed down its throat for ages now.

We don't have to pass such tests to own guns.

But I did pass an FBI background test for a Top Secret security clearance. I also passed a state background test for a concealed carry permit.

I have carried daily for 18 + years, and have never had any legal problems. (Last traffic ticket - 36 mph in a 35 mph zone - 25 years ago)

Exactly what makes you question my gun ownership?

Ahh.. I own guns...

Yeah - that's pretty suspicious

So you could stay retired, old fart. You will soon die of natural causes, a good for the world. You are clearly over your expiration date. About the FBI giving you clearance Hilarious

So why do you go against regulation of the guns? Is the overwhelming evidence too overwhelming for you?

Since you claim to be a respectfull citizen, with a traffic fine in 25 years, why are you so worried about gun regulation. I don't have guns, just a pocked swiss army knife. More useful.

You are afraid to have to pay fees for ownership? Welcome to the modern worrld.

My regulation: 250% price increase in guns, 500% on amno. And a psych test by a junta of 5 doctors to allow ownership.

Then we will put a $50 a month tax on your ability to express your opinion and $100 a month on your internet connection. And a psych test to open your mouth.

If you're willing to limit my second ammendment rights - I'm willing to limit your first.

I know people in law enforcement. Guys I worked with in the service got jobs with Border Patrol and EPIC. According to them -it used to be - the pretty standard reply to the question " why are you coming to the US" (asked of border jumpers by Border Patrol investigators) the most common answer was " to find work". Generally that was considered an honest answer - and border agents tended to believe it -- but unfortunately it was the wrong answer - and got the guy deported.

These people are ANYTHING but stupid. They learn fast. Word got around quickly - that if they answered " Asylum" - it gave them a fighting chance... If nothing else - they kept them from being stuck on the next bus south.

It also used to be mostly single males.

Then they found out that.women - and especially women with kids - rarely got immediate deportation.

Guess what? The single male is no longer the majority getting caught.

You're the only one here saying immigrants are here to steal jobs.

You really think nobody notices that?

Now come back with a monster long winded reply.

I need something to ignore.

I would have put it in different words, but, yeah, i dont find an argument from anecdote very convincing regarding this issue.
