11 minutes of your life. That's what a cigarette costs.

I remember hearing that on the radio when I was in college -- and that's when I decided to quit smoking. I was never more than a casual smoker. Gave me a good excuse at work to take a break, or when I was in the mood for one. Got my best friend to quit smoking with me. (She was a heavier smoker than I was, so she had it a lot harder). I've been smoke-free for going on 16 years now.

I resented smoking most of my life and I started smoking just before university. I think that I was already hooked because I was mimicking smoking while my relatives were truly smoking. After high school I was in a self-distructive state so I think I did t have the resolve to abstain anymore.
Because of my ignorance to addiction I taught Thai I will smoke just one year, hit my lowest point and then quit, little did I know that quitting was not such a simple thing.

Too bad we can't pick which 11 minutes.  I've got plenty of 11 minute chunks for trade.  Wink

A friend of mine that has quitted also said something along those lines. One has to wake up one morning and be stubborn about it.

Depends really how long you would've lived. In a modest approach, If I was to be 100 Then I should've died 10 years ago. This "a cigar takes x amount of life" its plain silly. Better advocate against tobacco with proper facts and support for those that may want to stop.

Strength, resolute, courage, stubbornness, bloodymindedness, whatever, just don't slip or you'll have to do all that nasty over again. Getting through the day was my reward, one more day I wouldn't have to go through when I was free of the fuckers.

Tomorrow's my day.
I'm trying to think of it as an opportunity to gain health.
I'm already buying new things in my mind with all the extra cash.
