ONCE AGAIN, having 49,000 journalists does not make the attempts at destroying that check on power go away. I would not assume it is impossible to destroy checks on power. It is still up to society to defend journalists like Shep. I am simply warning you and anyone reading this, "that cant happen here" is a dangerous thing to assume. Free societies do not fall overnight, but get chipped away at slowly like boiling a frog or lobster.

It took Murdoch 20 years to act as a propaganda machine and gave us Trump as a result. Shep was the only talent at that network not willing to cave into Murdoch or the POTUS.

Defend journalists, don't assume. Defend Shep, don't assume. Every journalists voice counts, including Shep's.

I'm not assuming anything, I just don't expect Smith's departure to have the massive negative effect you think it will.  We're talking about ONE newsreader from ONE news outlet leaving his gig.  You act as if this is going to destroy journalism in the US.  It's not that serious, truly it isn't.

And please stop accusing people of missing your point when you either 1) made the point badly, or 2) changed the point in your reply.
