Sadly - venison isn't a standard offering in this area. (Go figure) It goes 4-5 tumes the price of beef - if you can find it in stores.
Were it the same or less I doubt I would hunt.
Here, it's about the same as a good cut of beef (tenderloin or ribeye, for example). The difference in price is probably due to deer being farm-raised here. There's something over three thousand deer farms in NZ, so venison is pretty easy to come by.

I've never eaten deer, it's a bit posh to go on the menu in my house.
