- What do you think it takes to be straightened out (or made right) with God?

If you have any questions for me I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability, just list them at the end of your response to these questions.
- How would you describe your own religious background and church involvement?
I went to sunday school once at my mums insistence. Never for a second believed in a god.
- How would you describe God?
I dunno what is a god?
- What do you think is important in life?
To not be a dick and enjoy yourself as best you can but not to the disadvantage of others.
- What do you think it takes to be straightened out (or made right) with God?
As I don't think there is a god I don't think "being right god" is a thing.
- How would you describe Jesus?
Either a made up figure or a small cult leader whose story got blown up out of proportion.
- What are your thoughts about churches today?
They run the gamut from delusional but well intentioned to outright evil.

And if these questions are provided by the course/teacher, I have wonder if you're spending your money wisely.
It's not that he's handing our answers verbatim to the teacher, what kind of silly college class does that?
If I'm correct, and I could be wrong, I think the questions are a gateway for creating an essay paper based on the answers provided.

If you have any questions for me I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability, just list them at the end of your response to these questions.
I numbered each of your bullet-points for ease of reference and to save time and space quoting you.
1. Former Christian, current "None" raised by a somewhat devout Christian mother, and an atheist father. I attended Pentecostal church in my youth and briefly switched to Episcopalian during early adulthood before finally forgoing church altogether. My faith/god belief gradually declined over the years until one day it was no more, though I continued to have a deep respect and profound appreciation for certain aspects of Traditional African Spirituality and related Diasporic religions; Haitian Voodoo in particular, which I first began studying in my early teens. Though, I don't hold any god or supernatural beliefs, I would say that it informs my spiritual philosophy more than anything else.
2. A place holder, more or less.
3. Learning, knowledge of self, freedom, empowerment, the pursuits of justice and happiness, and making a genuine effort to live in accordance to my notion of "good".
4. I can't imagine why that would be a goal of any powerful Creator deity, to be honest.
5. A metaphorical figure
6. I guess they're as good or as bad as their Councils and the people sitting in the pews.

(November 14, 2019 at 12:21 am)Student Wrote: Hi, I am a Christian and I'm doing an assignment for one of my college classes. The assignment involves asking several different individuals a list of questions:
[*]How would you describe your own religious background and church involvement?
Raised Catholic. Attended church most Sundays until I was about 16. When I was 16 I ditched Catholicism for just general, non-denominational Christianity. At 18 I ditched Christianity completely, and have been atheist ever since. In the past two years I have warmed up to Mahayana Buddhism and Taoism. Although they have colored my worldview, I still just identify as atheist.
[*]How would you describe God?
I don't.
[*]What do you think is important in life?
That's a big question! I guess I would say it's important to recognize that we do not exist independently. Christian ideas of a "self" or a "soul" are rooted in egotistical thinking, but things are far bigger than us. Never get stuck in your own head! Your state is dependent on the state of everything else. We are a part of the universe in the same way a wave is part of the ocean, and we ought to act like it. Everything we do, say, and think, has consequences on the world around us. It's also important to remember that the real miracle is to be alive, breathing, and walking on this Earth, and therefore you should have immense gratitude for being who you are where you are when you are. Additionally, it is extremely important not to allow yourself to be attached to any one outcome and not let expectations weigh you down, as there is no "correct" way to live.
[*]What do you think it takes to be straightened out (or made right) with God?
I don't know, the question doesn't make sense to me.
[*]How would you describe Jesus?
He was most likely a rebellious Jew who had a radical interpretation of the Torah, that other Jews created a cult around. I'm not even sure if he existed.
[*]What are your thoughts about churches today?
Well, I was raised Catholic, so naturally I hate them.

@brewer asked for my answers to these questions, so here we go.
1. I was raised primarily Mormon, but eventually I converted to Christianity. Current Church involvement is lacking [insert excuse here].
2. God is an all powerful, all knowing, and everywhere. He created everything. He is self-existent and without Him nothing else would exist. He is Good. He is Love. He is Just. He is Triune, meaning three persons one God (God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit)
3. Bringing glory to God.
4. Either become perfect (which is impossible because of sin), or Follow Jesus and believe what he did.
5. Jesus is the Son of God. Both fully God and fully human. He is my savior who died on the cross to save me and others from an eternity without God.
6. Some churches are very dogmatic in their beliefs and focus too much on themselves and not enough on others. Some churches don’t have this problem and are able to both focus on the community around them as well as those inside the church.
I am not trying to convert any of you to Christianity. Also, I am well aware that over the Internet is not best way to have meaningful and deep conversations with others, I just do not know many non-Christians so I decided to do it over the Internet. Also, thank you all of you for the all the responses.
That's kind of what I suspected. You can believe what ever you want but I'm not going to participate. You might not want to convert but I do think you want to judge.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

It also gave up on the "it's my assignment for college" line of shit. As expected,...no college, no assignment, just a silly fucking missionary abusing the serious tag with a lie from the outset.
