In the jargon of contemporary politics they're both right wing, -mostly because they assert that the maintenance of some past tradition is essential to present and future life.
There's no such thing as hippie leftist jesus, except in the minds of hippie leftists.

I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Heh, I made the comment the other day to my wife that the current batch of religious wouldn't have anything to do with that commie-hippy in the buy-bull, and she actually agreed! Maybe I'd better probe the depths (or at least the width) of her current state of dis/belief.

Spot on. Jesus (according to the tales, at least) didn't get in trouble with the Pharisees for being a radical. He got into trouble for telling them they weren't conservative enough.
