Like some others who posted in this thread I’m also in the Jesus crazy American south. I’m surprised this shit doesn’t irritate more of you. I understand it doesn’t do me any good to be irritated but seriously I hate this kind of fucking shit. First, I don’t think it’s good natured at all. I think it’s aggressive virtue signaling. It’s like code for who’s in the club. It totally translates to “I’m a Christian, aren’t you?” And they use that tribalism against people who fall outside of the mainstream parameters. I hate the little things like that because they’re used collectively to oppress any kind of outsider. If you’re not a Christian it’s definitely a micro-aggression. Coming from a random person whatever but I don’t need that shit when I’m talking to someone who’s representing a business of some part of the public sector.

It's a tricky one.

On one hand, she probably didn't think of "blessed" the way it affected you. For her, saying "have a blessed day" might have been the same as "have a good day" and nothing more to it. It's not like it has the same impact as "God bless you", I think.

On the other hand, even I would know it's a social faux pas to say this to a customer you don't know, given the connotation of the word "blessed". So I get where you're coming from.

I agree that it's not professional in business emails unless the sender represents a church or other affiliated organization.

For people I deal with frequently and only 'know' through work I will sometimes add things like 'enjoy your weekend' or 'stay dry/cool/warm' depending on the weather if they are local.  But I have always been careful to end business correspondence with something simple like regards or thank you for your assistance with this matter.  Then my name, title, and company contact info.  I work as a contract bookkeeper so I feel like I need to represent who I am working for in a polite but generic way unless it's someone I have frequent dealings with and over time don't want correspondence to sound too sterile.

Back in the days of sending actual letters on letterhead that preachy crap would never have happened anywhere I worked.
