It's a historically impoverished piece of land that's been occupied for centuries currently undergoing gentrification. Flat here is complaining that the underdeveloped investment properties purchased from desperate poors are not living up to expectations because the cost of making them safe is too high, lol.

Of course corruption is not a good thing, you might think it's good until you get hammered by its consequences.
In the Middle East, corruption is immense. Arab people are born nowadays with somebody on top of their heads robbing them out of their fortune, right to vote, dignity, lack of good education system, and it even extended to life.
It's a very shameful thing to grow up with a boot in your neck; corruption is the way the boot used to reach your neck.
If corruption was fought, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump wouldn't have even dreamed about abusing the British and American people.

Thanks to them, people on Vir are getting electricity illegally, using poorly-isolated underground cables, and with plugs not suited for being used underground, and are often covered by wood chips.
I get the impression that the only way those 'regulations probably make things less safe' is that the regulations aren't being followed. If the houses had been properly built to begin with, there would be no need for unsafe hookups.
Boru Well, how can possibly those regulations be followed when they were made AFTER those buildings were built? Do you think that people will rebuild almost every single building on the entire island just so that it conforms to those regulations?

If they need to make changes to be safe those changes should be made.

It's just impossible. Never before in the history of the world have a bunch of houses that were not built with electricity in mind been safely retrofitted for electricity.

Look, houses being built with less than 1 meter distance from each other and legally having electricity is common. There are a few streets here in Osijek where houses mostly touch each other. The law made by the bureaucrats in Zadar that the distance must be 1 meter is completely unreasonable and counter-productive.

I had to in my house. Old brick house, the electrical grid was along the ouside of the wall. On my volition, I put it inside the walls (can't go wrong with 2.5 milimeter cables inside flexible polycarbon flexible hose). The county hall provides free certification. All you have to do is file a requirement, costs 2.5 euros and they send a techcnician to evaluate your grid. If you dostuff right, no need for corruption and the work it gives is the same to do right or wrong.
