Too bad there is the small matter of him surviving inside the whale

Mentioning the verses that contained the story:

Quote:Sura 37, The Quran:

Dr. Ghali

(139) And surely Yunus (Jonah) is indeed one of the Emissaries,
(140) As he deserted to the laden ship
(141) Then he cast lots. Yet he was of the rebutted,
(142) So the whale gobbled him, and he was blameworthy.
(143) So had he not been of the extollers (of Allah),
(144) He would indeed have lingered in its belly until the Day they will be made to rise again.

Mufti Taqi Usmani

(145) Then We cast him ashore in the open while he was ill,

To validate the story in terms of "possibility"; it is very possible scientifically:

https://www.whalefacts.org/can-whales-swallow-people/

Quote:While most whales aren’t able to swallow people there is however one species of whale that may be able swallow a human under the right circumstances.

This whale is known as the sperm whale.

Then it is a possibility.

You can say that with a straight face? I can't wait to hear the "scientific" explanation for how Jonah survived.

A few wee problems getting to even being swallowed though. If you'd quoted that website a little more thoroughly you'd see:

Quote:Unlike most species of whale sperm whales have a relatively large throat which is designed to allow it to consume large prey such as giant squid.

While these whales do have large throats that would make it easier to swallow a human most of their hunting takes place several miles below the sea, up to 3,000 ft., which is much deeper than a human is able to swim.

In fact most hunting takes place so far under the ocean that it has been difficult for scientists and marine biologists to study the hunting methods of sperm whales, even with advanced technology.

This makes the likelihood of a sperm whale consuming a human extremely unlikely.

In fact there has never been a recorded case of a sperm whale or any other whale actually consuming a human.

So theoretically possible, yes. In the sense that there's no actual scientific law prohibiting devourment by whale. "Very possible" isn't just a mendacious horseshit, it's grammatical nonsense too.

Not that any of that matters. In the Quran, as in the Bible and the Tanakh, Jonah is swallowed by a big fish. Try to keep the difference straight or your scientific credibility goes straight into the shitter.

Remember that it not only has to be possible for the whale to swallow Jonah, it has to be possible for Jonah to survive in the whale's stomach. If that takes a miracle, it doesn't matter if it was a Sperm Whale or a hummingbird, what's scientifically possible is not part of the story.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I can't help but wonder why it would matter whether or not it would be possible for a whale to fit it's jaws around a man. Jonah was swallowed by a dragon, not a whale..or even a fish. Supposedly, "jesus" used this as a foreshadowing theological metaphor -

Quote: For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Matthew 12:40

In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
