He is trapped. I think the impeachment hammer made him scared, and just like a drowning man he is hitting the waters around him to swim. I doubt he will ever make it.

I understand that Trump was presented with a list of options for responding to the embassy protests, killing Soleimani was one of them, indicated as the most extreme. Naturally that's the one he picked.
With the recent missile attack directly from Iran (no deaths reported) a lot depends on how Trump responds to that. Hopefully his advisors will leave the most extreme option off any list they give him this time.

I think Trump is about as worried about being removed from office as he is of turning up pregnant.

Nobody killed - and they call it "victory".
Just enough to quiet the bloodthirsty home team - and not quite enough to give Trump an excuse to go ballistic.
