Yes, Ireland's presidency is largely ceremonial. You asked me why we don't elect an atheist president. We don't HAVE a president, we have a prime minister, and she's openly agnostic. In order for us to elect an atheist president, we'd have to create the office first. But with our constitution, the office would have to be mostly ceremonial, and would probably cover those trivial things now done by our governor-general (she's a very nice lady, I'd hate to see her out of work).
