Trump is right: You are still testing to much. Hilarious
Maybe stop doing autopsies would be a good next step. Hehe

And if Trump didn't actually require hospitals to stop reporting COVID data through the CDC and insist they do so through their own buggy and notoriously unreliable system (which I suspect may be so by design), wondering if Trump's going to ask coroners to stop doing autopsies might actually be far-fetched.

Recently, my Dad found this meme and asked me how true it was:

Alas, it turns out that, while technically true, at least, assuming that we’re talking about Coca-Cola, it’s not quite as true as people think. I checked Snopes, and while I didn’t find the amount of cocaine in the formula as of 1918, I did find that, “by 1902 it was as little as 1/400 of a grain of cocaine per ounce of syrup.” For the record, that’s about 0.162 mg/FL oz (5.48 mg/L). Given what I know about the US’ situation with cocaine around this time, specifically, the arc in Season 1 of The Knick where Thack is forced to go off cocaine when the US goes to war with the Philippines and cocaine production is drastically curtailed.

And, of course, by the time it was removed entirely in 1929, the amount used was even more infinitesimal, that, “In an entire year’s supply of 25-odd million gallons of Coca-Cola syrup, Heath figured, there might be six-hundredths of an ounce of cocaine.” So, yes, by that point, it was so small that an eight-ball could have covered two whole years’ worth of Coca-Cola’s entire manufacturing output. It took a while for me to calculate that it converts to 4.88 picograms per fluid ounce (165 picograms per liter.)

For the record, the current WHO-recommended guideline is to limit arsenic in drinking water to 10 micrograms per liter, so by 1929, it’d be at homeopathic levels. And I strongly suspect that by 1918, it’d be closer to that than even 1902.

Was it evil behind the 170k deaths from COVID-19, or just incompetence? "Huh? I don't know him, I never met him, it never reached my table."

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). A lady who worked (until she retired) at the vet clinic we use has been preparing for her son to come home after 57 days in the hospital with COVID. She's recovering from a knee replacement but trying to do what she can to prep for his release - possibly today. She lost a grandson to it a month or so ago.

So far that's as close as it's gotten to me.

I am meeting her tomorrow to give her some of the masks I have made.

Let’s face it, with Trump, the issue of incompetence vs. evil is a false dichotomy. Not just because Trump has eaten, drunk, and slept of the Dark Triad for all his 74 years on this planet, and not just because he’s had a long history of failure and at one point, spiraled so deep two cents of every dollar Lost by a US business was lost by Trump, and it’s not even just because he’s so thoroughly divorced from reality that his toadies had to coin the phrase “alternative facts” to justify his bullshit.

It’s deeper than that. Why? Deep down, it’s because he’s the head of a party that, for decades at the very least, has latched onto the idea that the government should not exist to help people. At all. Except maybe the military and the obscenely rich. And Trump’s taking it to the extreme, and in any sane world, this is where Raskolnikov would meet Svidrigailoff and let them know the monstrousness of the ideology they picked. Meanwhile, Trump’s still claiming he took decisive action to stop the spread of COVID, even though he’s repeatedly lied about The virus, asked officials to slow down testing, Demanding states reopen even as thousands of people are dying every day, and as a result, we now have more cases and more deaths than any other nation. And as I was eating dinner last night, Dad had the TV on and I heard some Republican parroting Trump’s claim that he took decisive action to stop the pandemic, even as he did nothing of the sort. Why? While it’s tempting to liken Trump to Anthony Fremont from “It’s a Good Life,” his party isn’t kissing his ass out of fear. They’re doing it because, when the government actually trying to help people is anathema to your political views, this is what a good response looks like. And if the rest of the world looks at what you’re doing and responds like this, that’s their problem, not yours:

COVID-19 Test Materials: $8
Bill: $10,984

Quote:A Doctor Went to His Own Employer for a COVID-19 Antibody Test. It Cost $10,984.

Physicians Premier ER charged Dr. Zachary Sussman’s insurance $10,984 for his COVID-19 antibody test even though Sussman worked for the chain and knows the testing materials only cost about $8. Even more surprising: The insurer paid in full.

C-19 mutation may be evolving to bypass masks and hand washing

Quote:A new COVID-19 mutation appears to be even more contagious, according to a study — and experts say it could be a response by the virus to defeat masks and other social-distancing efforts.

Scientists in a paper published Wednesday identified a new strain of the virus, which accounted for 99.9 percent of cases during the second wave in the Houston, Texas, area, the Washington Post reported.

The paper, which has not been peer-reviewed, said people with the strain, known as the D614G mutation, had higher loads of virus — suggesting it is more contagious.

Though the strain isn’t more deadly, researchers said it appeared to have adapted better to spread among humans.

David Morens, a virologist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the findings suggest that the virus may become more contagious and that this “may have implications for our ability to control it.”

He said it’s possible that the virus had evolved to resist efforts such as hand-washing and social distancing.

“Wearing masks, washing our hands, all those things are barriers to transmissibility, or contagion, but as the virus becomes more contagious, it statistically is better at getting around those barriers,” Morens told the newspaper.
