Illinois has currently reached Tier 3 Mitigation, which is just short of a full-on lockdown. Here's how it affects my routine since mid-March:
- Retail stores are limited to 25% capacity, 50% for grocery stores
- Home gatherings are limited to one household. So it looks like if you're looking to have a Thanksgiving Dinner That Can't Be Beat And Not Wake Up Until The Next Morning, do it for your own damn household. I've been assuming that Dad and I won't go to Bonnie's for Thanksgiving, but it looks like my therapist won't be able to hold an in-person Thanksgiving like she's been contemplating.
- The local library's situation is left to the discretion of the village. And while they recently announced that they were going to discontinue curbside pickup in commemoration of readying the West wing of the Library, it's likely this will have to change, but their situation has a big question mark hanging over it for now.
It's not quite a lockdown, but, it looks like it will turn into one if people keep trying to find ways around it, so, odds are, an escalation is all but inevitable.

When you see grandma for Thanksgiving but not Christmas, you'll know why.

Got a friend, you know him here as "Hillbilly Atheist". He lives in Oklahoma and right now Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are playing and they have let students in the stands. He also works at a major department store. So between this bullshit super spreader event, he has to work Black Friday.
He is surrounded by nuts.

My husband's Aunt died of Covid yesterday. First person we've known (well 'known', I didn't know her that well and neither did my husband) to die from it. I suspect things will get worse over Thanksgiving. In two weeks I'm sure we'll see our first day of 300k+ cases.

Sorry to see this. It's going to last a longtime if people won't practice some patience.

A good point made on the tube today: "If you tested negative to Covid yesterday you can still be positive today. It's like a pregnancy test, only good to the point in time when it's used."
And another. "You have the freedom to choose to use a mask, you don't have the freedom to expose other people if you chose not to use that mask."

And, apparently, the Supreme Court has recently decided that COVID-related restrictions on churches are unconstitutional:
Full decision heah.
And it's now going to take a longer-ass time to actually get this pandemic under control.

Gee, what an asshole:
Quote:Pompeo and his wife are hosting multiple holiday parties (one on the 8th floor of the State Dept with more than 900 invitees & food & drinks). At the same time, Pompeo’s subordinates are warned against meetings for “non-mission critical events.”

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Good news/ bad news .....
Bad news - there is currently 100,000 people hospitalized with Covid 19.
Good news - simple math - that is .03 of 1 percent of the population....
So - Captain Trips it's not.....
