[Serious] Can you sew? Can you save a life?

"Other protective types of face coverings, like scarves or small towels, could also help provide some degree, if minimal, of protection against breathing in respiratory droplets from those who are infected. Since you can transmit the virus before becoming symptomatic, wearing a facial covering will help protect those around you from a possible spread."

Based on that article, I provisionally modify my earlier objections. It seems that a homemade mask is better than no mask at all, but not nearly as good as a proper one.

My chief concern is that people who make their own masks may, as the article implies, get a false sense of security and not see the need for things like self-isolation and social distancing. It's still clearly better to stay at home with no mask at all than to go out with a so-so mask.

The essence of the article, IMNSHO, is that you should do it right if you're going to do it. But I'll take any mask on somebody who sneezes behind me over none at all.

Yeah, unusual for me, innit?  But when you're right, you're right. And regarding your video, I think, from a logistical stand point, it probably better to wear the homemade masks than for people to order them.  Save the real masks for the healthcare workers.

Just cut up an old t-shirt for a mask. Better than nothing.

Surgeon general on DIY "face coverings". (I guess we can do this shit at home. Who knew.)

I like that I can walk into the rural king wearing a keffiyah and a canister. Used to be I'd have to explain that to the cops.

Gotta keep it on the sunnyside. Wink
