There's a "slight" difference.....
A slave is someone you bring into your home to abuse at your will. To do scut work. To be degraded. To be beaten and fucked whenever you like. All with no risk of reprisal. An adopted child is someone you bring into your home to love, to teach. To defend with your life and ultimately when you die, bequeath all you own.
