If were to point out where he's gone wrong - no matter how politely I do it - he tends to lose control and go off into some fakakta diatribe about unrelated issues.

Life isn't fair.

So nobody here, has ever made a bad joke, or even a joke in real life face to face, "I'm going to knock you into next Tuesday"?

There are bad jokes and there is threatening language.  Learn the difference.

Keep that in mind the next time you read any other atheist on ANY website who uses dark sarcasm about barbecuing kittens and eating babies.

Not remotely the issue here.  The fact is, you broke a rule.  If you want to 'joke' with impunity about taking out a fellow member with a suicide vest, I'm sure there are plenty of websites which will allow you to do that.

My best friend in HS back in the mid 80s used to joke with me when I would come in and bitch about something in the news, he'd twist his face, give me a funny look, and silly voice and say, "Well, you know what you need to do?" And asked, "What", he'd respond, "Kill everyone and plant trees."

This has nothing to do with your friend.

And every time my best friend from Oklahoma sends me a country music song, AND I LIKE IT, but for the most part, I hate country music, but when he sends me something I like, I don't like to admit it and joike with him, "If you tell anyone I like this, I'll have to kill you."

And watch any cooking show on cable TV for that matter, the host will ask the cook, "what is in it", and the cook will respond, "If I tell you, I'll have to kill you."

This has nothing to do with cooking shows.

The only thing that can be said about any type of dark sarcasm or joke, is timing and knowing your audience does matter. But don't assume mere sarcasm is meant as a real threat.

All the more reason you shouldn't have said what you did.  You know I've been a victim of terrorism. Or maybe you don't - you're so self-absorbed that it's possible you've missed the dozen or so times I've brought it up.

The timing would never have been right for the comment made. I don't care how many times that's repeated; it doesn't make it true.

Knowing your audience should come into play but even with that it's a specific remark that should not have been made...regardless of audience.

The rationalization of 'I am too big a pussy to do anything violent' doesn't count either...one of the most common remarks made about people who commit horrendous crimes is that the perpetrator 'seemed' like such a nice, quiet person incapable of such horror prior to the act.

Causing terror doesn't have to be the act itself. It can be the implication an act may be committed.

Being socially inept shouldn't be a pass, yet, here we are.

I have to be honest here, the last time I saw this, I didn't watch the entire speech, but finally did just now. Overall I still agree with his argument that we need a military, but we cannot let the public or private sector, or any sect of power let it get out of hand. 

But at one point in the speech he negatively speaks of "atheists", pretty sure that is referring to the cold war post WW2 which is a fallacious argument. But outside that one dig he is right. 

Speeches like Ikes, and Reagan, and JFK and Obama make the orange turd look like a babbling drooling toddler.
