Yeah - it's pretty obviously self defense -and I can't see charging him for murder- but ---
He was still a dumbass for going to a riot with a rifle.
Is there a penalty for being a first degree criminal dumbass?

There is, if you run out into a street and kill two people while imagining that you're a hero, in mere reality, you're still a murderer.
No one doubts that the kid was dumb and thought he was doing good - but it's telling that his defense is shopping that as it's play, laundered through fox news.

Maybe if he'd stopped him from murdering two people..but he didn't..and if we're worried about people getting into a brawl in the street that turns into a gunfight, they're both criminals.
Whatever indeed, as in you'll say whatever is convenient at any moment. Let's remember your shooters defense the next time a gang war breaks out. We can only prosecute one side or the other. If we're going to charge one, the other gets a medal of honor. Bikers Law.
