This is something I see as semantics. You don't. We don't agree. I am glad you explained your stance, but you didn't need to speak that way to me. Being civil when disagreeing seems to be a lost art.
When you say "You are not giving up any liberties" and "You wear pants" (ect) I have to assume you ARE addressing me - and I take exception to such accusations.

And I will say so.

Fair enough. Perhaps I should have said "we" because that is what I meant.

People really don't understand the nuances of our collective psychology and the sort of impact the president's words have on his cult like followers. He didn't explicitly say "Kidnap the governor," but he very obviously encouraged the groups and militias protesting. He justified their logic. He said they were just.

Words matter.

Same reason Trump is personally responsible for the pandemic being as bad as it is. In public he routinely denied the science, encouraged folks not to wear masks, downplayed the severity of the virus, had unprecedented control over the CDC messaging, and more. To act like what he says doesn't have a massive impact is.. stupid, to be frank.

Quote:Don't lecture me honey....

I have been wearing a mask (3M N95 - I have a pile of them) since the first advisory. I am willing to bet I do FAR less social interaction with other people than 90 percent of the people on this board.

We didn't leave the farm for almost 2 months - and didn't need to.
Good for you . That doesn't refute anything

Quote:We have a legislature.

They need to make the laws.

Not the Governor.

If.she can't convince the legislature to do what is right for the state - she needs to get the hell out of office and let someone who can to do the job.

NOT rule by fiat...
Yup and fucking failed and the governor did the right thing a skipped their assess and did what needed to be done .

You overlook one massive flaw in your logic.

....

When someone you hate tells you do do something -do you -

A. Readily comply and do as they say.

B. Tell them to go fuck themselves. ?

...

If Trump had been a big endorser of face masks - those on the left would be the ones saying that masks are a placebo.

If you don't think so - you are truely a party loyalist.

The Anti Masker movement is deeply rooted in the Right . It's mixture of

The same contempt for science that causes them to reject man made climate change and evolution and makes anti vaccine sediments so prominent on the Right

The "government bad "and "all men are islands"  mindset that produced the Tea party movement and delusions like QAnon

Add the nuttiness of Evangelical Right

And you have all the ingredients for said movement . Though some degree of this could be found on the Left it's prominent on the Right , And Trump's words alone would not be able to produce a Anti mask left. When so many traditionally leftist institutions and beliefs  directly contradict it .

Small interjection: The term "climate change" was a Republican policy invention in 2001 to 'ease' the more damning "global warming", by the strategist on their side Frank Luntz (he later retracted it, but then it was too late).

From timestamp 8:38 to 9:17 you can see this on the Knowing Better's vid:
https://youtu.be/52rDpeC6JL0?t=518

(the vid is pretty good about public policy overall, without going into the old tired arguments about why it's bad, we already know that)

I am most likely the most far-left member of this forum. Please believe me when I tell you I am not loyal to the neoliberals in the Democratic Party.

That being said - no, no I do not think that the left would say masks are a placebo if the president urged everyone to wear them. The anti-mask sentiment is born out of a juvenile conception of individual freedom unique to American conservatives. It is not up the left's alley. If you look at polling of Democrats and Republicans in this country in regards to believing the chief scientists, it is the Dems who accept science at a greater rate than Republicans. Liberals accept science in other areas as well, including climate change. For these reasons I do not believe Democrats would say masks don't work if Trump said to wear them.

This also has nothing to do with the point I was making originally.
