President Biden
He plans immediate flurry of executive orders to reverse Trump policies

Quote:President-elect Joe Biden is planning to quickly sign a series of executive orders after being sworn into office on Jan. 20, immediately forecasting that the country’s politics have shifted and that his presidency will be guided by radically different priorities.

He will rejoin the Paris climate accords, according to those close to his campaign and commitments he has made in recent months, and he will reverse President Trump’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization. He will repeal the ban on almost all travel from some Muslim-majority countries, and he will reinstate the program allowing “dreamers,” who were brought to the United States illegally as children, to remain in the country, according to people familiar with his plans.

Although transitions of power can always include abrupt changes, the shift from Trump to Biden — from one president who sought to undermine established norms and institutions to another who has vowed to restore the established order — will be among the most startling in American history.

Biden’s top advisers have spent months quietly working on how best to implement his agenda, with hundreds of transition officials preparing to get to work inside various federal agencies. They have assembled a book filled with his campaign commitments to help guide their early decisions.

Biden is planning to set up a coronavirus task force on Monday, in recognition that the global pandemic will be the primary issue that he must confront. The task force, which could begin meeting within days, will be co-chaired by former surgeon general Vivek H. Murthy and David Kessler, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner.

My immediate single biggest worry for Biden is getting this virus under control.
I just can't see Usians being forced into lockdown against their wishes. Same with Europe.
Melbournians were tortured with their restrictions but it has paid off. Australia is now basically clean.

I think there'll be almost a civil war next year IF there is no vaccine made available for a quick fix.

Probably true because of most of us being fucking idiots.

Is being forced to stop at a stop sign on our public roads an imposition of our freedom? Is a prohibition of a legal adult having sex with a legal minor an imposition of our freedom?

There are many of us who can't make a distinction between common sense restrictions (even if temporary) and government repression.

So yeah, Joe Biden has a challenge on his hands.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

One executive order I’d like to see on Day1 would be an order to halt all construction on the stupid fucking wall, and worded just that way:

‘It is hereby ordered that all construction related to the stupid fucking wall is immediately halted. It is further ordered that all stupid fucking contracts between the United States and public and private contractors related to the stupid fucking wall are to be immediately cancelled. All monies from other government agencies that have been allocated to the construction of the stupid fucking wall are hereby restored.’

Nonsense.  In just four years, and after allocating $15 billion, the Trump Administration have completed 15 miles of new border barriers. I mean, ok, so it's not the 20 foot high, 2000 mile long concrete barrier that Trump promised, but that's just the sort of insignificant, immaterial detail you liberal types LOVE to harp on.

Wrong crowd. I'm glad that someone has been paid to dig holes and fill them back up these last few years. That part of our system, at least, has been functioning. Going forward, if anyone tries to tell us that our welfare state is going to bankrupt us... I'll be pointing to that price per mile alongside the assertion that our economy was the greatest of all time.

I think there'll be almost a civil war next year IF there is no vaccine made available for a quick fix.

The problem is evidence suggest immunity to COVID-19 is not permanent, and previously infected can be re-infected in a few months.   This suggest vaccine will only be a partial solution.   In any case even the partial solution will take months for enough doses of vaccine to be manufactured to dilute the pool of potential victims to diminish daily infection rate.

Trump loyalists will be unlikely to play along with a workable plan to control the vaccine.   They will actively resist and sabotage any control efforts prior to the vaccine in order to make Biden fail.    If vaccine proves effective in any degree, they will claim credit for trump and then also claim the vaccine would have been a complete solution but for Democrats kicking trump out of the office.

On the last point, I caution against being too complacent about trump being kicked out of the office.    I give 30% chance trump loyalist republicans will yet pull off a coup.    Having full confidence in the efficacy of our system of succession and order transition of power is to bury one’s head in the sand.  After trump legitimate   transition of power will have to be fought for, and will be increasingly disorderly.   When fighting is involved most of the democrats are nearly as serious and determined as any shade of republicans.

I have zero doubt that in the next 50 years, a democrat will be able to take the White House fewer times the the democrats will actually have won the presidential election.     The democrats will prove able to install far fewer percentage Supreme Court vacancies than the vacancies that open up during a democratic president’s term.
