It is insidious. Yes they do have people on Medicare in nursing homes. But if you have a savings, you have to drain that first to apply for Medicare.

In my mom's case when she was in a nursing home, she had a pension. Her nursing home rent was $4,000 a month. The only way she could get Medicare to pay for it is if her savings got drained to $2,000 total, then Medicare would kick in.

My point is, poor or middle class, nobody should go broke or become indentured slaves because they get sick.

I suspect that the fear that some minority or immigrant will "abuse the system" is what keeps most folks fearful of reforming the system.  Sure, you have it bad, but the idea that someone will get free stuff that doesn't deserve it is intolerable!

I don't understand why some people, not you, but some people love seeing their fellow human being as not being human.

I myself don't care what someone's status is, if they are stable, that makes society in whole stable. Plus, the simple fact they are human beings.

I have the money, but never again. I would rather be able to give it to my best friend than to make some asshole CEO richer.

I am lucky I have a savings, but even with that, it is going to cut into my ability to get to social security.

Are you insured? This may be of interest to you: Hospital Bills for Uninsured COVID Patients Are Covered, but No One Tells Them

You can also directly negotiate with the hospital over your bills. I don't know any details about your stay, but I certainly hope you didn't pay for an entire hospital stay OOP.

No you don't. You're thinking of Medicaid. Stop making statements regarding things you know little to nothing about.

Then the facility dad was in owes us at least $5K.  He was on Medicare.  And yes, they did look into how much he had in liquid assets.  He wasn't forced to sell his property but money in savings was tapped.

Let's see you make this boast when you're gasping for breath, drowning in your own mucus.....

Not that we would wish such a horrid demise on you or anyone - but it'd be really impressive then.

Now? With you healthy?

Sounds like bullshit to me...

Alternately, he could hop on his lawn mower to get away from the rattling beer bottle on the A/C vent, drive over his mower cover, lose control, crash into a tree and fracture his pelvis.

But not go to the hospital.
