Are Orcs in Lord of the Rings Atheists?

RE: Are Orcs in Lord of the Rings Atheists?
In the book he said the quote last. Which made the guy mad, the mouth of Sauron. I found the source from Quora website, been ages since i read LOTR in Norwegian

"Get you gone, for your embassy is over and death is near to you. We did not come here to waste words in treating with Sauron, faithless and accursed; still less with one of his slaves. Begone!’ Then the Messenger of Mordor laughed no more. His face was twisted with amazement and anger to the likeness of some wild beast that, as it crouches on its prey, is smitten on the muzzle with a stinging rod. Rage filled him and his mouthslavered, and shapeless sounds of fury came strangling fromhis throat. But he looked at the fell faces of the Captains andthe black gate opens their deadly eyes, and fear overcame his wrath. He gave a great cry, and turned, leaped upon his steed, and with his company galloped madly back to Cirith Gorgor."

Tolkien's friend C.S. Lewis was the religious nut who literally wrote religion into his works of fiction. I don't get that vibe from Tolkien's LOTR novels.

I've read "mere Christianity" by CS Lewis and found it....unconvincing. As Richard Dawkins wrote of him: "he really should have known better."

Ironically, the only negative criticism Tolkien's works seemed to receive was from English and literature experts who thought he would never be considered a great writer due to how he deviated from the norm with grammar.

No, orcs aren’t atheists. They worship Sauron and, through him, Melkor/Morgoth.

‘Faithless’ in context means that Sauron doesn’t ‘keep faith’ in the sense of keeping promises and honouring his word. It simply means that he is not to be trusted and isn’t related to religious faith at all.

‘Accursed’ means only the the Valar, after casting Morgoth into the Outer Darkness, gave Sauron - Morgoth’s chief lieutenant - the opportunity to repent. He scorned the offer and so will never get another chance.

Tolkien kind of admitted that himself. He said that the error he most regretted was using ‘Dwarves’ instead of the more correct ‘Dwarfs’ or ‘Dwerrows’.

That’s happens when we let philologists write books. Smile
