Do you say anything to anti maskers in public?

RE: Do you say anything to anti maskers in public?
I go to the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the doctor's office. All places that require masks. At the grocery I see people now and then who don't understand that the respiratory system involves both the mouth and nose but I generally just respond with an eyeroll and putting more distance between us. I wear a mask into work when I go once a week to pick up paperwork. Usually there is not more than one other person there so maintaining distance isn't a problem.

I'm not out to fight with people who are obviously not afraid to die.

Well.. I hope the fekker lives up in Queensland. We could do with a few less of those stupid, fekking banana benders. Tongue

Of course, the stupid fekkers down in Melbourn can't find their @rse with any amount of hands as their massive outbreak and lock down shows.

Which is not to say Sydney/NSW is off scott-free. We were been letting the fekking cruise ships dock thanks to our illustrious 'Govmint' officials not possibly being influenced by buisness interests.

Again, all the best to you and yours Mate. Smile

Not at work.

I love Brisbane. It is one of my favorite cities in the world. I absolutely love Keppel Island way north of course. But your highways, holy shit. Once you get outside a major city all of them are 1 lane each way.

But maybe the fact that you are the land down under, your virus is less lethal because it is upside down.

I did go to the grocery store last week (first in months) and everyone was masked, although I did see a nose family. The whole family, including the kids, had their noses out.

Yes it is a risk, and I cannot tell you how to react. I don't blame you. I usually don't say anything if there is enough distance. But if someone gets too close to me, getting the virus and dying would be painful like being beat up or shot.  Dead is dead in either case.

Most of the time when I suddenly dodge someone being an idiot, they simply think I am a coward. I could care less. If it gets the asshole to back off, let them think that.

Right--if they invade your space without a mask, all bets are off. They're deliberately putting you at risk. Fuck that.

I'd like to see that a misdemeanor at minimum.

Even outside this virus, I have let people think I am a coward, even at bars long before this.

I won't lie, I could not have been one of the soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy. If I had been alive back then, I would have told the draft board, ""I'd be happy to serve pealing potatos state side, but don't put me in combat, I'd get myself killed quickly, or needlessly get others killed" I am definitely not that kind of brave.

But, I have had a couple of occasions at sports bars, where some drunk fuckface overheard me talking about a game, in which they did not like my opinion, and tried to start a fight with me.  Both times I put my hands behind my back and said, " You can beat me up if you want, but if you do, you'll be the one going to jail, not me. I am not going to fight you." Both times the guy said, "Wimp".  Fine if they want to think that, but I prevented physical harm to myself. How is that not smart?

So, if they assault me, they are the aggressor.

Please explain to me how I was wrong for keeping my distance.

I wasn't trying to start a fight by keeping my distance. He was the asshole who took offense to me keeping my distance. Why is it my responsibility to coddle his insecurities?

*shrug* Just pointing out the risks involved in fucking with strangers. When you fuck with the wrong one and you find him sitting on your chest repeatedly pounding your skull into the asphalt, keep telling yourself, ‘It’s ok - HE’S the aggressor!’

No one’s saying you were wrong by keeping your distance from an unmasked person - that was the smart, sensible thing to do. But your ‘wear a mask, wear a mask’ remark was risky and ill-advised, since you never know how people will react. I’m glad you weren’t hurt.

It is absolutely true that it is a risk when dealing with strangers. It isn't either or. I will lean to non confrontation when I can. But I do not see how I was being confrontational simply by waiting outside.

His insecurities caused him to initiate confrontation to me because he noticed I wouldn't get close to him. All I said was "I'll wait" to the store clerk, not him.

I agree, he initiated the confrontation, not you. Small comfort, that, if he turned out to be armed and put four in your chest for telling him to wear a mask.
