Catholic Bishops statement on Biden.
January 25, 2021 at 7:54 am
It starts out:
Quote:"When we speak on issues in American public life, we try to guide consciences, and we offer principles. These principles are rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the social teachings of his Church. Jesus Christ revealed God’s plan of love for creation and revealed the truth about the human person, who is created in God’s image, endowed with God-given dignity, rights and responsibilities, and called to a transcendent destiny.
Based on these truths, which are reflected in the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights, the bishops and Catholic faithful carry out Christ’s commandment to love God and love our neighbors by working for an America that protects human dignity, expands equality and opportunities for every person, and is open-hearted towards the suffering and weak. "
No that awfully bad, but further on:
Quote:At the same time, as pastors, the nation’s bishops are given the duty of proclaiming the Gospel in all its truth and power, in season and out of season, even when that teaching is inconvenient or when the Gospel’s truths run contrary to the directions of the wider society and culture. So, I must point out that our new President has pledged to pursue certain policies that would advance moral evils and threaten human life and dignity, most seriously in the areas of abortion, contraception, marriage, and gender. Of deep concern is the liberty of the Church and the freedom of believers to live according to their consciences.
It goes on with more nonsense, but you can read it here.

I hope the Catholic bishops who wrote this will understand that aiding and abetting child rape makes their pronouncements on moral evils and threats to human dignity ring more that a little hollow.

Well, isn't contraception all about loving your neighbors safely?
But seriously, is he actually expecting that the president of the USA (in this case Biden) will forbid contraception?! That he will forbid sex-change operations?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Really?
You didn't expect the RCC to play the guilt card against a Catholic President?

I don't believe that Jesus said anything against abortion, contraception, gay marriage or trans-gender people.
Catholic Bishops in the U.S. tend to be among the most conservative, as the U.S. is a bastion of right-wing religion in general. In Europe, people are fed up with centuries of church power. Churches lay idle, and the people are cultural Catholics only. The populace tends to be liberal, and even the practicing Catholics use contraception and consider church edicts to be mere suggestions.
"freedom of believers to live according to their consciences" -- that was about bakers not having to make cakes for gays, and Catholic institutions not having to pay for contraception in healthcare plans. But it would also mean the freedom to say NO to all the crappy church doctrines.

I don't see why a priest (or a pope) should have any say regarding sexual matters, "if you don't play the game you shouldn't make the rules"

I'm still trying to wrap my head around "expands equality" and "liberty of the Church".

Got to wonder where this guy was for most of Joe Biden's career.

This was a thought I had early when I was required to take a "Towards Marriage" class in high school that was taught by a priest.
They did have one of the male guidance counselors come in to talk with us a couple times. He was not clergy and was married and had kids. Mostly he talked about which spouse had what responsibilities in the marriage (I bet you can guess who stayed home barefoot and pregnant) and touched on spending money wisely and raising any kids in the church.
Either way it was a BS class but was required for graduation. One of the few classes that had nothing to do with education to lead toward college while I was there.
