There are some extremists on the left, but they're generally too busy peacing out with a doob to go out and wreck shit. Pro-choice extremism exists because there are mentally unstable anti-choice twits who don't like that teh wimmens can get condoms and birth control pills. That shit just ain't right to those people, and they blow shit up and stuff. So there is backlash against those assholes, because there are mentally unstable twits on the left, too. They are the ones not peacing out with a doob, btw.

This is about violent extremists. I don't care if they are left or right. If they plan violence to achieve their ends, they are a problem.
Of course there are extremists on all sides. That's not the point. So when the Patriot Act came out, not only did you support it, but you were dissatisfied and thought to yourself, "we should have this, but this on steroids"? I thought the left was overwhelmingly against the Patriot Act, but now you're supporting this, all because a bunch of Trumptards killed one police officer (a bastard, for the record, because all cops are bastards)? Seriously?
The government knew the Trumpers were going to show up by the thousands and that something like this could go down. They chose not to prepare for it, and I think they're thrilled it happened because now they get the Patriot Act on steroids which is what the establishment has been wanting. They were just waiting for the right time to put it into law, when something happened to get the public applauding the legislation. There's nothing the establishment is more happy about than the capitol riots.
Those who would give up liberty in return for a little safety, deserve neither.
There really aren't extremists on both sides, but we've reached the point of american governance where you can't even whisper about our domestic terrorism problem without negotiating over reality with the domestic terrorists. I think the coup attempt is a mixed bag for the institution. On the one hand, it showed us how weak it was, on the other, as you notice, it gives them all the reason they'd ever require to shore up those weaknesses.

IDK, I haven't had the fbi knocking on my door, and I'm an extremely patriotic american. Our domestic terrorism problem has always been just the one ideology. The unnamable thing that people will refuse to call themselves, calling whatever it is they think they're doing "patriotism" instead.

I was always pretty patriotic and guess I still am. I have the flag flying from the front of my house. One of the few in the neighborhood. Maybe it has something to do with spending some time in the military...IDK. So far, I haven't had anyone knocking at my door either to check on my potential for terrorist tendencies. I'm certainly not extreme. I'm also not going to hide the fact that I think there is still a lot of good in this country.
