In all fairness to the Vatican, they would argue (perhaps, somewhat subtly) that their art galleries and other "exhibits" brings tourists, which bring donations, which they can use to feed the poor.  But, yes, it's absolutely despicable that children anywhere should suffer starvation.  In many cases, however, such is due to endemic warfare in their own lands, which prevents the aid agencies (which, include the Catholic Church) from getting to them.

There is not one religion on the face of the planet that is not a business. The Vatican, just like politicians, both friend and foe alike, all have global investments in the global market.

A long time ago, back when I was still a Catholic as a young teen, my mom bought an alleged piece of cloth blessed by the Pope.  Separate issue, even at my local Catholic church they had a gift shop, and I begged my mom to buy me a gold colored cross, not real gold, but with a realistic body image with with Jesus on the cross. It was about 4 inches tall, and I hung it over my bed.

For pure moxie you have to admire Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. He was the Indian "sex god" up in Oregon who had 93 Rolls Royces...

I bought my first Triumph motorcycle from a guy in San Francisco (1983) who was selling all his worldly posession to "go live with the holy father" in Oregon..

He actually said that with a straight face.....

Hilarious

At the same time that Catholic Church is rolling money, they are filling bankruptcies so they can hide money and avoid paying the victims that get raped by priests.
Victims see it as Church saying "We don't care" because they need that money for therapy

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Quote:Overall, the nation’s nearly 200 dioceses, where bishops and cardinals govern, and other Catholic institutions received at least $3 billion. That makes the Roman Catholic Church perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the paycheck program, according to AP’s analysis of data the U.S. Small Business Administration released following a public-records lawsuit by news organizations

Why is it wrong?  Surely either every organisation & employee should receive aid, or none?
Aid in the Church's case is to replace income from donations, just as it is to replace income from profit in the case of a business - in both cases so that they can continue to operate, when the pandemic is over.

If organisations had to rely on their own cash reserves or selling assets, many of them would go under.

The people who are benefiting from this are not clergymen, but teachers, nursers, doctors, office workers, staff members etc who work in the Church's various institutions.
Those workers surely have the same rights under US law and the same recourse to the US Government, as all other workers, regardless of employs them.

The article actually contains an example of an unnamed priest refusing to apply for aid money because, after juggling his finances, felt that he did not need to, which shows that not everyone views Government aid as a 'free for all'.

If you read the article again you'll see that they were less than truthful about needing the aid.

Expecting truth from christians/institutionsto much to expect?

Why oh why would it be wrong to lobby for an exemption to civil rights legislation so that you can defraud the government for more billions than you're already defrauding the government for?

Is that a rhetorical question......? I expect some divergence between ideas of right and wrong between a cultist and a non cultist, but not that much.

This, though..takes the cake.  In point of fact they don't - at the churches insistence.
