Bahaha! That's great! Truthfully, if we get down to it, according to the Bible, the comparison of God vs. Satan looks more like Mad magazine, Spy vs. Spy.

In general, this is about the taboo and evil characters of all religions, but Christianity tends to be the most fussy.

Sure, just look at Satanism. Who invented Satanism if not Catholic Church so it can attack and get rid of its enemies by stigmatizing them in a very banal and easy way. So, as Muslims were seen as enemies in the eyes of the Church, they used the old French word for Mohammed, which was Mahomet, to name this devilish being Baphomet. At the time, European Christian dogma viewed the worship of Mohammed as idolatry, and probably still does.

So if you look at etymology for the word "Baphomet" you'll find out that the earliest known use of the word Baphomet comes from a letter written by a French crusader in 1098. He describes the Crusaders’ enemies in the Holy Land "Calling upon Baphometh" prior to battle. Another early chronicle of the crusades refers to mosques as Bafumarias.

Then in the 14th century Knights Templars were tied to Baphomet by their enemy King Philip IV of France.

And as this article says

Being arrested as a heretic was particularly unpleasant in Medieval France due to Inquisition-style torture techniques. The punishment would continue until the prisoner confessed. King Philip accused the Knights Templar of spitting and urinating on the cross, engaging in homosexuality, and worshipping Baphomet as an idol. Baphomet, presumably a reference to Mohammed, was allegedly incorporated into the Templar practice during their time mingling with Islamic culture in the Middle East. Basically, King Philip was accusing the Knights Templar of having become Muslims. Similar charges were leveled against other political opponents of King Philip IV, and are also presumed to be fabricated.

And then over the next 500 years, people added more to the Baphomet like how he looks and what he is.

As atheists, how do you feel about bucking religious authority and making fun of them by using their "evil" imagery in a free and rebellious way? Like, goading Christians over their sensitivity by embracing devilish or demonic imagery/characters. 

Like, I watched Philip Defranco cover Lil Nas X's controversy with his Montero music video, wherein he's sent to hell, pole dances, and gives Satan a lap dance before killing him. In interviews, he discussed how religion had tried to make him feel shamed for his homosexuality and the video was symbolically telling this story of how he was embracing who he is. He had stated that he knew this video would stir things up and make some people unhappy but he didn't care.

I'm not a fan of his(only heard about him from the news of the controversy this stirred up) but I understand the idea. Briefly, I entertained a story idea wherein I would write about Joseph Smith and the stories of his early life getting heavenly visitations. But I'd frame it as a Donnie Darko style horror, where we can't tell if 1. Joseph is simply crazy and delusional or 2. He is being visited by beings....but they're not from heaven. As a mockery of the importance and reverence placed upon the first vision account, which comes across as pretty sinister now that I'm no longer a believer.

None of it's real, neither Satan or God, so, do you feel a measure of glee and delight to use their ideas of Hell and devils to poke fun and mock their religious sensibilities? Do you get that sense of joy when watching others do so? I do.

If you believe yourself to be a superior/more enlightened person for not believing, why would you then find pleaseasure in tormenting someone 'less than' yourself?

I found only those not secure in their own beliefs feel a need to torment others about theirs.

I admit to my limitations in reading and diagnoses learning disabilities all the time. So again how is it that i'm smarter or better?
