Number 5's Surreal Creepy Film Collection

RE: Number 5's Surreal Creepy Film Collection
I'm a fan of this thread. Keep the list of creepy/surreal movies coming. Especially things on Hulu and Netflix... because those are the services I have.

I think Hellraiser and Blue Velvet belong on the list (if they haven't been mentioned already).

@Five Did you watch Lights Out yet? I'd like to hear your opinion if/when you do.

Hellraiser I & II are old favorites. It's definitely got that lore mystery thing going on. And very body horror surreal. I am a big Clive Barker fan.

I haven't seen Blue Velvet yet but I have heard of it, lol. And no, I have not seen Lights Out yet. It's on my list, for sure.

I don't want this thread to die, so I've been posting movies that are already a part of my creepy collection, that I've seen.

Dude. I love the first two Hellraiser movies (because they're so good).

But I also love the last two Hellraiser movies (because they're so bad).

Saint Maud (2020)

This. This is the interpretation of God I like to see now that I'm atheist. Sinister, malevolent, controlling humans like puppets. It looks almost completely indistinguishable from the adversary in their myths. And the human devotion to it looks like a sickness, depraved, full of glorified suffering.

Movies like this make me entertain a brief fantasy where god IS real but it's a monster, hungry and manipulative. And as I watch Maud be steered around by this thing, I feel a sense of relief, like I dodged a bullet by retracting my worship of this thing that only had designs to consume me until there was nothing left.

Has anyone else seen Triangle (2009)? It's gotta be one of my favorite mind-benders. Like Inception snorted coke off of Groundhog Day's ass. Its got layers but not so much that it's confusing. Also, I get weak in the knees for Melissa George.

Coherence (2013)

Quote:On the night of an astrological anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, COHERENCE is a tightly focused, intimately shot film that quickly ratchets up with tension and mystery. (imdb)

I thought this was superbly done. It's bizarre and surreal but still grounded by the dinner party and the relationships between these people. Alternate realities colliding, doppelgangers, and an exploration on the scifi ideas in quantum physics.

I'd seen Coherence before.

And I just watched Triangle on your recommendation. Nice one... a supernatural version of Timecrimes.

Keep the weird movies coming.

Another great one! There were some parts that I thought were weak but there were overall several ideas that were genuinely creepy and unsettling in that tantalizing "I wanna know more" sorta way.

I'm glad you enjoyed Triangle. Very few people have seen it but it's a good movie.

Yeah, there were some weak spots. But overall, enough unlike other horror genre stuff to be interesting.
