It s possible to raise taxes on billionaires and not give tax credits to them, but the workers.

I agree the last thing Jeff Bezo's needs is a tax break. But if we can subsidize the difference not going to the top, but to the worker, the owner won't be so quick to blackmail society.

How is giving tax credits to workers going to force owners to adopts set schedules?

Ask a new parent, especially a nursing mom, about adapting to changing hours.

Ask a soldier who has just pulled back to back fire guard or is in a hostile environment.

Ask a first responder about their hours.

Ask a medical student about residency hours.

Where did I claim we don't need that?

I am saying it isn't ideal. It is a reality sure. But it isn't  somthing appropriate for all jobs.

I can tell you having seen nurses and aids at a nursing home, there is a burnout and I know they have a high turnover rate.

Especially with this pandemic now, I have seen countless stories of hospital workers and even doctors quitting or even committing suicide because they feel helpless.

Now, while I was never a nurses aid, or a nurse, or a doctor. I can tell you about the worry, and stress and depression and feeling of helplessness and self blame, when I felt like I could not help my late mother.

I never saw anyone die from covid. I never saw anyone in combat have their brains blown out. I have never been a doctor who has lost a patient. I have never been a combat MEDICAL specialist. But I do know what it is like to be alone with someone with mobility problems, with medical issues knowing that you can't do it alone. I do know what it is like to second guess yourself and blame yourself when something goes wrong, even when the rational part of your brain knows you did your best. I do know the long hours. But I also know having backup, and a regular schedual especially in times of stress, are far more ideal than the unreasonable expectition that humans are capable of lifing off of no sleep.

It isn't that humans arn't adaptive, we can be for sure. But consistancy in sleep patterns regardless of job, can and does help reduce stress.

What we need is a system where one only works a shift of four hours a day.

We already have that, it is called part time. Not 4 hours yet, but if corporate America thought it could get away with that it would. Corporate Ameirca love cheap labor. If it could get the average worker to work a one hour job, and 36 one hour jobs to save money, they would do it.

The 40 year trend since Reagan is to punish any increase in wages by cutting back hours.

Sorry, does 8am-3am 7 days a week count as a set schedule? Because it was pretty set and still absolute bullshit.

Sounds fantastic. Are you planning to make our car payments or fees our children in this scenario?

It isn't about everyone working the same hours. The global economy is 24/7 work.

It is about, or should be about giving more power to the worker.  Whenever you see the words "Flexible shcedule" in a job ad printed by an employer, what they realy mean is, " You live for us bitch".

I can't repeat this enough. If one's body clock is used to working in the morning, you should have a way to have a consistant schedule where you work in the morning. If you are used to working in the afternoon/evening, again, you should have a way to have a consistant schedule. If you are a night owl again, you should have a consistant schedule.

There should be very few jobs/indurstries where someone is expected to disrupt their patterns. Police, fire, medical, and military. But someone sitting behind a fast food counter, or stocking shelves for a big box store, no.

Why is this even a discussion with someone who doesn't work?

I did, or is retirement illegal? I've worked for over 30 years. Is it the plot of a human to simply de driven into the ground until they die.

Pretty sure you work right now, do you? If you do, wouldn't you like to have a few years where you could relax? Is it right to blame others who are in that position?
