I'm part of the Commonwealth, and I believe the Queen is important.

I think it is important that the head of state is not the same as the head of government.  I also believe that some sort of reverence for the office of a non-political head-of-state is required to safeguard a democracy.

The Crown is useful as long as it does its constitutional job, and enjoys some popularity.  That way, if some dictator comes to power, the Crown will have the backing of the people to dissolve parliament.  There are other ways to get a head-of-state.  They can be elected or appointed, but that doesn't give the same level of political independence or popular mythology that may be required in a crisis.

If a dictator comes to power in the UK, do you really think he's going to give a wet fart about the dissolution of Parliament?

The monarchy is good for tourism and tabloid fodder, that's really about it.

Thats why Germany also has a president (Steinmeier), howm however many germans probably dont know.
Still there is a difference between an elected president (is elected by upper and lower house together) and some fossils back from medieval times.
I doubt however that the UK is gonna change from a constitutional monarchy into a republic soon, just for this reason.

Indiana Idiot Lawmaker Wants Teachers To Be Impartial On Fascism

Quote:“Marxism, Nazism, fascism … I have no problem with the education system providing instruction on the existence of those ‘isms,’ ” said Baldwin, who co-wrote the bill. “I believe that we’ve gone too far when we take a position. … We need to be impartial.”

'Nazis are bad people' is not a subject open to debate.

But who do you think would make a better Queen of England: the Duchess of Cambridge or Camilla?

Me, naturally.

I don't find her that good looking. Way too bland.

Charles would do his damnedness to be that dictator. He has no concept of non-political and thinks the sun shines out of his arse.

For you insomnia peeps there's a new drug out there (daridorexant/trade name Quviviq) with reported reduction in negative daytime side effects. They specifically mention daytime sleepiness and mood.

Fuck, I sound like a pharma commercial. Go organic, smoke more pot before bedtime. Then wake and bake. Bong

Dems, you need to get your shit together. The Abrams/Biden crap is hurting you nationally. Also the infighting in the House. Keep it up and I'll have no sympathy for the 2022/2024 election losses.

Judge reverses conviction of rapist because 'he's served enough time'. If I were a judge, and this judge were murdered I'd let the prisoner off light.

148 days for a convicted rapist. I’m not sure I know how to process that.
