Her response was "sin."

So we have an idiot brain wanting to remove a fictitious thing from a real world. This is why there's no progress in the world.

That is not why there is no progress in the world, but that is what makes much of the smug yet loathsome.

We may have to reinstitute lobotomy as an option for some.

Divine laws are in the same class as “self evident truths”.   It is an attempt to forestall objections to and deflect scrutiny of a set of axioms governing what is meant to be a self-contained system.

The problem is self contained system only works if people can be prevented from noticing the outside of the system contains what they prefers to not give up.

It's unlikely that a right-wing idiot will contribute to progress much. Or any kind of idiot, really.

Dante defines sin as excessive behavior, or insufficient behavior, which causes you to live in ways that are harmful to yourself and others.

So for example if you're obsessed with food to the point that it's unhealthy, that's gluttony, which is a sin. If you deny yourself food to the point that you're unhealthy, that's anorexia. Dante didn't use the word anorexia, but he made it clear that healthy, non-sinful behavior is on a middle path, with sinful excesses on either side.

Getting angry all the time for no reason is wrath. Failing to get angry when you should is also a bad thing.

Pride is rating yourself higher than you deserve, and expecting to be treated like royalty. The opposite would be undervaluing yourself, and allowing people to treat you like a doormat.

Dante thought that lust is the least bad sin, because loving and being drawn to another person is a very good thing, but it can go over the top. The opposite sin wouldn't be celibacy but something like total misanthropy -- hating everyone in a way that's over top.

The point is that getting rid of sin, for Dante, is more or less equivalent to what we would call mental health. Removing that from the world means we'd be mentally healthy.

"Sin" is a bullshit superstitious word. If one wants to argue the world would be better if there was less violence and meanness in the world, I'd go for that. But the fact that humans will always do good, and always do bad, does not justify chalking either up to bullshit superstition.

God and Satan don't explain shit anymore than Darth Vader and Yoda do.

"Sin is a bullshit superstitious word" = lies that people tell themselves because to admit the same would be to admit that there is in fact an Almighty GOD in Whose image we were created and to Whom we must all answer.

This "Hakuna Matata" like position is folly because if there is a problem (and there is if we are honest with ourselves) - it is wise to seek a solution, rather than summarily dismiss the whole thing because it is ostensibly easier to do. When one has, say, a medical emergency or condition one seeks someone/those medical professionals who can help one fix it.  Merely denying the problem is not helpful, but hurtful; to self.

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." - Matthew 7:13-14

You know that sin is no laughing matter and down right serious when GOD incarnate - the Lord JESUS, The Word (John 1:1-14) -  substitutionally bore the required cost of it (death beyond the death of the body) - to save many; according to His will and purpose.

These are truly matters of life and death and nothing to scoff at.

"Sin" is a bullshit word some control-minded people got together and made up, solely for the purpose of controlling the less-educated. Just look at what the RCC did with education. Some apologists talk about support for mathematics. That was done to control the astronomers and to use things like predicting solar eclipses to threaten the laity. If there really was a hell, those are the people who belong in it. I'll give them the atheist mercy of release from that hell when they learn how they have "sinned" against humanity, and repent.  Clap

No that is what a holes do. I love him, and his affection. It is what people call "a labor of love".
