Close enough. ( I actually prefer your version)

OK, don't remember it. Great show. Loved Baldrick's cunning plans.

This reminds me of a story someone told. There is a very steep hill --5 or so miles-- near where I live, and at the bottom of the hill is a cliff... a wall of pure rock. (I'm in the Appalachians.) Truckers can lose their breaks on that hill and crash into the wall. There are dozens of crosses at the bottom of the hill. Tons of accidents have occurred there.

Anyway, someone was recounting an incident where a trucker crashed into the wall and survived... and they added "Someone must have been watching over him."

Like... they weren't totally watching over him. After all, he crashed into a wall and sustained serious injury. It's an exercise in selective bias to say that since it could have been worse that some force intervened and prevented it from being worse. It also could have been better. No one says, "Wow. God really dropped the ball there because that guy's truck is fucked."

I got hit by lightning once on the way to work. Not a direct strike. Enough to knock me out and put me face down on the ground.

When I got to work - I told them what happend. The response?

" Wow - you sure are lucky - you should go buy a lottery ticket!"

Huh?  Were you listening? Does it sound like i am having a great day?

How very true.

From time to time, at the shopping centre I notice some unfortunate looking old lady, and think something like "Gee, what an old boiler" or something equally as sensitive.

Then another thought occurs "Watch it mate, she could easily be one of your old girlfriends!***  It's also been a very long time since you were love's young dream, if you ever were"

Yes, time humiliates us, then it kills us.

***my first serious girlfriend is now a weary 72 year old.  I'm delighted to be able to say that I heard that my ex wife  has grown, but only in circumference.  Cool
