Bollocks.

It just depends who who happens to be paying attention.

Also bollocks, what with heaven [and hell]  probably not existing and all.

In my experience the most powerful motivators are self interest and fear, with fear being the most reliable motivator.

In this context, he's talking about what's beyond humankind's present achievements and discoveries, not some supernatural realm. We're already reaching for the heavens. It's called the Space Program.

“Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs.”

"I was a secular humanist before I knew the term. I have not believed in God since childhood's end. I believe a belief in any deity is adolescent, shameful and dangerous. How would you feel, surrounded by billions of human beings taking Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the tooth fairy and the stork seriously, and capable of shaming, maiming or murdering in their name? I am embarrassed to live in a world retaining any faith in church, prayer or a celestial creator. I do not believe in Heaven, Hell or a Hereafter; in angels, demons, ghosts, goblins, the Devil, vampires, ghouls, zombies, witches, warlocks, UFOs or other delusions; and in very few mundane individuals--politicians, lawyers, judges, priests, militarists, censors and just plain people. I respect the individual's right to abortion, suicide and euthanasia. I support birth control. I wish to Good that society were rid of smoking, drinking and drugs." (Forrest J. Ackerman)  Read

First time I heard that quote I was actually studying statistics.

He told as an anecdote something like :" In the city of Glasgow , ministers of The Church Of Scotland recently received a 10% rise. For the same period, local police have advised that arrests for solicitation went up 17%"

Same teacher gave this advice " Never play poker with a statistician". Have never played enough poker to verify that claim.
