evolutionary psychology

RE: evolutionary psychology
We can address our stored information, silently, but by using words. Due to language everything in our mind has a name, that's a way to recall that a mind without words does not have. words are another path to access our mind. language, and language alone, has propelled us far beyond any other species. A mind without language is only triggered by sensory input. Is there another way?

Human children are initially limited to sensory input for language. Do you consider them a separate species?

Remember talking about deaf kids prior to language, are they a separate species?

Can you do anything other than repeat your assertions over and over, like respond to others posts?

Why are you making a distinction between humans and non-human animals, we are just an animal.

Humans are different from any other animal, because of our intellect.

Figure out what that sentence means, and you will have pretty much mastered the psychology of evolution.

I quote others because there are so many that know more about the subject than me.

Oliver Sachs says, when speaking of a subject that was deft and had never been exposed to sign language. "Joseph saw, distinguished, categorized and used objects. He had no problem with perceptual categorization or generalization, but he could not, it seemed go much beyond this, hold abstract ideas in his mind, reflect, play or plan. He seemed completely literal, unable to juggle images or hypothesis or possibilities. Unable to enter the imaginative or figurative realm. He seemed like an animal or an infant to be stuck in the present".

It would take a lot more than one case study to establish your point. You have to show that Joseph represents the norm under those circumstances.

Plus, from what I read, while growing up he was treated as retarded. Not really a situation conducive to learning. Also, I didn't read where Sacks actually worked with him to document his non language cognitive abilities.

Would things have been different if the parents knew that he was deaf and communicated with him thru non language ways, like pictures?

The Sachs quote aside, the brain of humans is structurally different from other animals, it evolved differently, In the late Pleistocene, mankind developed language. The brain is now structured to store and use language, it must store a large lexicon of words used to converse. Man can now instruct, explain and agree, plans can now be made, strategies constructed, this is a skill available only to humans. This is the difference between human and all other animals, and it is a large difference
