We often comment on the necessity of sheep.
It's a good way to be. My Catholic upbringing was very nice. But I developed a rebellious nature, and am no longer a practicing Catholic. But I still look up to Jesus, and I know He still considers me one of His sheep.

I thought you said miracles were unimportant.

Not really "unimportant", just not the most important part, in my opinion.

What's the important part, golden ticket?

As the story goes, death, then undeath, then eternal life. And now you state "he considers me", sounds like miracle/magic to me.

RE: Who was Jesus?
It'd be a neat trick for a composite character in a book of myths and legends to consider anybody anything.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Have you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church?

Nope, why should I? Raised evangelical lutheran until I escaped. What point are you trying to make, other than dodging my last question?

Reading the Catechism would give you a better understanding of these things. There's only so much I can say, because my explanations are subjective, and it sounds like you want an objective explanation.

Which part would you like me to read?

Understand that I really don't care if you believe, but I will not validate your beliefs when it comes to a god(s).

I don't believe in any of that. I think it's all hogwash.

Fabricated events.

2000 year old stories about laying on hands healing of leprosy? Resurrections? Please. No way. I think these stories are false and meaningless. I am not impressed. Nor do I think it's plausible that anyone has ever performed miracles. And even if they did, so what? How meaningful is that really?

In academia these days there is a (well-hidden from church goers) strong exegesis that the words Paul uses to describe the "resurrection" (in Greek), actually means for an Apocalyptic Jew, (which Paul was) "exalted" not "risen" from the dead. (See Bart Ehrman's book on the subject). It's the same Greek word Luke used when he had the prophet Simeon say at the presentation in the Temple "This child shall be responsible for the RISE and fall of many in Israel". "Rise" as in exalted to a different relative position, ... NOT risen from the dead. The Hebrews thought their apocalyptic heroes were "exalted' in the sense of the Seven Sons of Hannah, and some of the prophets. There is a great book called "The Trouble with Resurrection", by Dr. Bernard B Scott, a Christian seminary professor of New Testament, who actually teaches this in the seminary.

It may be "hogwash" but it's there ... and some people obviously believed it, and virtually no one these days understands the cultural context.
Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell  Popcorn
