Its a sort of religious fundamentalism. Its trying to politicise religion (in this case: Islam), which is anthithetical to everything mankind has learned in the past few hundred years. Islamism is literally an attempt to "turn back the clock a few hundred years".

Of yourse, you dont see that as a problem....turning back the clock. For you its rather a feature than a bug.
