First Church of Myself?

That’s a church I could support.

It’s not so much that, it’s that we don’t take YOU seriously.

I’ve just reviewed my employment contract. ‘Kind words’ don’t appear in my job description.

Doubly strange, in context - since....if we're really saying that people shouldn't be animals..then kinky sex being a thing only humans do is a mark in it's favor.

Bonobo chimpanzees love their sex.  I mean it depends on what you mean by "kinky".  There are no vibrating dildos or anal beads, but bonobos enjoy frequent sex, multiple partners of both genders, and different positions.

This "we're not animals" thing is something that some versions of Christianity obsess about.
I wouldn't be surprised, in the least, if chimps have a concept of kinky sex.  I think that bonobos would figure out what to do with a box of sex toys, seeing as how they already view the world as a giant box of sex toys. We're just better tool makers. Then again, I suppose that any bonobo with the manual dexterity required to make tools like ours would be pretty busy with those hands.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I think an openly atheistic person in a church based community would be very popular. People would see it as a challenge. Not sure the atheist would have a very good time tho. Would be hard being constantly told you are amoral and going to hell and not being accepted as you are.

This depends a lot on individual churches and their attitudes.  Some can be quite punitive and scornful but others are more accepting and encouraging.  For the latter, all unsaved people are just people who haven't found Christ yet and need some help getting there.  I think the former could be altogether different and perhaps abusive, so it wouldn't be an inviting or interesting atmosphere.  There are those churches where the preacher condemns people for the most minor offenses.  Also consider that there are many (who knows how many) closet atheists who are members of churches for various reasons.  I once knew one who participated on a forum such as this.  He was absolutely an atheist but also a long time member of his church somewhere in New Hampshire.  Of course, that's a pretty liberal area so I doubt there was any fire and brimstone at his church.
Why is it so?

^So much this. Most Methodists/Anglicans/Episcopalians probably wouldn’t care all that much, while Baptists/Free Presbyterians/Pentecostals would welcome the opportunity to festoon their altars with the entrails of a baby-eating atheist.

Yes - this seems like a topic in its own right - what proportion of church going populace is purely there because of fear of communal excommunication, judgement, loss of friends, but they are really agnostic at best, but happy to go along for the ride since it's how they were raised all their life - ie. not wanting to topple the apple cart, as you will. In my view the pressure in certain countries / wider communities would be very high to do this, especially in rural US where not being seen as a "good" Christian is almost like not belonging to the human race. When was the last time a US politician came out as anything less than openly Christian? It would be political suicide.

I am also sure the "Church" is very keen statistically to present the highest possible number of "believers" from both a credibility as well as a recruitment angle. The "several billion lemmings can't be wrong" mentality.
