Need some help.

Need some help.
So I only just recently walked away from the Bible and God. While I've come across enough information to lead me to believe The bible isn't true and that there no God. I'm try to separate fact from fiction. Mostly from a historical point of view.

So question I have is there any good books that you guys would recommend on this subject? I hope what I'm asking makes sense.

Well....... the bible and Lutherans are what made me atheist, for 50 years that was enough for me, so I can't give much input. There are the Dawkins and Hitchens types that write books about it and there are an uncounted number of youtubes by and about atheists(ism).

I'm sure others can provide more direction.

Where did you start? What flavor of religion? How long is recent?

Have you checked for input on other forums? If we knew a little more we could zero in on things that may help.

Any basic science textbook comes to mind. Other than that, I strongly recommend ‘Asimov’s Guide To The Bible’.

Try reading Earl Doherty's The Jesus Puzzle.  Link To PDF File, Not A Webpage       Link to Jesus Puzzle Website

It contains academic study but is written as a novel.  Convincing arguments but lacks rigor and clarity.  Earl had quite a web presence years ago so you may be able to track down those discussions.

If you're looking for something denser, read Richard Carrier.  Better yet, search for his talks on Youtube.

N.T. Wright will at least give you a fuller understanding of what you are rejecting.

I believe Ehrman and Metzger collaborated on the latest edition of Metzger's New Testament. That would be another good source.

It's all fiction

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

"The God Delusion" Richard Dawkins.

"God The Failed Hypothesis" Victor Stenger.

"The New Atheism" Victor Stenger.

"God Is Not Great" Christopher Hitchens

"The End Of Faith" Sam Harris

"Infidel" Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

My short list.
