What's the alternative to letting people "choose" their gender? (Not that I think that such is a "choice"). Even if Martha is "right", she is wrong, because, her "cure" is worse than the so-called disease that she seeks to treat.

I kind of think the point she was making is that people shouldn’t get in a twist over how other people identify themselves. She’s having a jab at lackwits who seem to think non-standard genders are going to be the downfall of Western civilization.

Difficult to say. I read her tweet four or five times, and it's ambiguous. Like outlawing abortion -- "Then what??"

I would think the line "something else that's none of my business and won't harm me in the slightest" is a dead giveaway that it's mocking the same slippery slope fallacy the right engages in, but that's just me.

If I want to marry my cat, well, then that's my business! But, my cat is notoriously unfaithful, and would ditch me for the next human with the right treat bag!

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Okay, Harry Harlow does not belong on that list. The thing that brought him fame was the same exact thing that eventually made him notorious and the only thing that changed is people started to see his experiments with rhesus monkeys as more and more objectionable (though, that said, dysphemisms aside, it may have been the least ethically fraught way to cover the ground he was studying). Honestly, I'd add Graham Linehan to that listicle in his place. Hell, he's probably even worse than Jojo, given that, as far as I can tell, her impact in this area is mostly limited to being ignorant on Twitter and talking shit about trans folk, and Glinner's actively led harassment campaigns against them. Then again, Father Ted, Black Books, and The IT Crowd, even if they are three of the greatest sitcoms ever, aren't quite the same cultural touchstone as Harry Potter.

Or, if two TERFs are too much, maybe Amos Yee, since the fall from free speech martyr (and given that he was jailed for criticising former Singaporean PM Lee Kuan Yew, this title is very much deserved) to open fucking defender of sex with children is a pretty deep descent.

Rugby sevens Olympic gold medalist Ellia Green comes out as trans
Gay Times

Quote:Former rugby sevens player Ellia Green has come out as a trans man.

The Australian retired from the sport last year and has suffered with serious mental health issues since then.

Green made the announcement in a pre-recorded video shown at a summit on ending homophobia and transphobia in sport.

The 29-year-old said: “I promised myself that when my rugby career ended, I would continue to live the rest of my life in the identity and the body that I know I am meant to be in.”

“I just knew it was going to be the most liberating feeling when I had that surgery and to be in the body I knew I had to be,” he added.

Groundbreaking study reveals the obvious – that trans kids are who they say they are
Pink News

Quote:The research looked at the statistics of 317 early childhood social transitioners – 208 trans girls and 109 trans boys – and examined the rate at which these adolescents would “retransition” either to their gender assigned at birth or to a non-binary identity.

It found that over an average of five years after the beginning of their social transition, around 7.1 per cent had “retransitioned” at least once. Almost half of that figure – 3.5 per cent – began identifying as non-binary, rather than with a binary gender identity.

The percentage included a small group – around 1.3 per cent – of youths who had retransitioned to another identity before returning back to their original binary trans identity. Another 2.5 per cent of those who retransitioned went back to identifying as cisgender.

By the end of that period, around 94 per cent identified with a binary trans identity.
