Texas bill Prohibiting discrimination of Intelligent Design
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLooku...ill=HB2454

This bill was introduced in Texas legislature by State rep. Bill Zedler. Here the crucial part:

"PROHIBITION OF DISCRIMINATION BASED ON
RESEARCH RELATED TO INTELLIGENT DESIGN.

An institution of higher education may not discriminate against or penalize in any manner, especially with regard to employment or academic support, a faculty member or student based on the faculty member’s or student’s conduct of research relating to the theory of intelligent design or other alternate theories of the origination and development of organisms."

Texas and intelligence in the same post?

Does "The probability of this being true is low and therefore we cannot deem it acceptable to allocate our limited resources towards this pursuit" count as discrimination?

Only if something like Christianity is involved..if it is anything else then discriminating against it is publicly expected.

I would expect a state like Texas to protect stupid people from discrimination but not gays.

Exactly..you have to keep the stupid people happy, and treating gays like shit makes stupid people forget about how they are getting screwed all the time by those they elect.

We seriously need to stop being so respectful of the myths people hold. Believe them privately, fine. But unless they can back up their claims with evidence, who are they to ask for funding or resources or exceptions or whatnot?

Intelligent design, pffftt... So they see the hand of God in everything. Maybe I see the hand (er, tentacle) of Cthulhu in everything, could I secure funding for that research?

...and as anyone who hasn't been brainwashed by "Expelled" knows, this has never happened anyway. This legislation is not only ridiculous, it is completely useless.

The only discrimination from the scientific process is the filtering out of theories with no basis in reality. Research ID all you like, knock yourself out Texas. Gee look at that watch next to that bacterial flagellum....mmm I wonder?Thinking
