Nothing. But claiming that nightmares have a supernatural origin has everything to do with sloppy thinking.

By the same logic, my short sightedness is supernatural too!
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

The reasons we have nightmares and dreams has nothing to do with deities or the supernatural.

Dreams and nightmares are the way our brains process information in a way that doesn't put us in danger.
We go through fears and concerns, investigate possible solutions to problems, etc, all while being immobile
and thereby unable to actually get into harm from those actions.

if you have nightmares, that only means you have fears that your mind is attempting to work through.

I’ve heard dreams described (I forget by whom) as ‘Your subconscious whispering in your own ear.’ Seems about right.

While I can agree that god is a monster, the stuff of nightmares, if I'm lucid dreaming, god is in for an ass-kicking.

Trying to read through that post and understand the logic will certainly give me nightmares.

Had a dream where I took over the world and, as a result, over a billion people "disappeared".

Some would call that a nightmare.

Others would call it evidence of a sick and twisted mind.

I call it "2023".

Maybe I should start a GoFundMe called "Atheists in favor of the Rapture"

A billion christians all disappear at once.

Sums up most of it: https://www.howard-fensterman-charities....ightmares/

Quote:The American Academy of Sleep reports that nightmares plague only 2-8% of the adult population. Adult nightmares are similar to children’s nightmares in most aspects.

Quote:The only way to escape nightmares is to handle our fears of the day. Once a person learns to manage their everyday stresses properly, they will be less likely to have nightmares

I know this isn't the intent of the OP, however understanding our sleep process and what can interfere with it is worth knowing. Especially with all the science connecting poor sleep with poor health outcomes.

That said should this thread be moved to a health or science area instead of Atheism?
