How does counter-trolling work?

I used to enjoy taking break with a bunch of co-workers who were all maintenance guys. Every one was a different version of Christian, so I would stir the pot by asking a loaded question like what happens to babies when they die, then sit back and watch the carnage. I'm talking full on heated arguments about this or that interpretation of scripture. One guy loved referring to Baptists as the American Taliban. Great stuff. Yeah, all on the same page...

Why do you think there's a new movement toward theocracy?
Why do you think Spongebob meant a new movement? I thought he was talking about Dominionism.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

In order for a theocracy to be one the way, wouldn't a flavor of religion have to be settled upon?
Even the various Christian groups have very different beliefs.

Not necessarily. Even now there are "universal unitarian" centers for religious people who aren't interested in subscribing to any one religion or another, but still want to be a part of that cultish group. I would have to say UU is the way of the future, more so than atheism.

Sorry, to be more specific here I'm talking about the new right wing radicalism, Trumpism, whatever you wish to call it. I've been reading too many articles connecting the dots to the religiosity among those movements. I don't think there's anything specifically new about it but perhaps a newfound emphasis. Once the right has power, and it will have total power after the 2024 election, I do believe we will see a new wave of religiously based legislation this country hasn't seen in over a century.
