When I read this on the BBC I jumped in the air!
Absolutely fan-smegging-tastic!!
I absolutely ADORE Red Dwarf. Red Dwarf, Bottom and Blackadder are like the perfect three sitcoms for me. This is totally brilliant and exceptional news. I did to get my other half of the Red Dwarf series as well. I've only got the first four so far... Although over the years I've undoubtably seen every single episode (I've even checked the episode names and script names on the site. I've seen every one and many several times over (only some just a few times). Red Dwarf, - live on! Evf
Is it really that good?
I mean seasons 1 to 5 of Red Dwarf were excellent but from then on (seemed to coincide with the use of flash digital effects for the starbug ... I thought the crappy old ones added to the feel of the program) they just struck me as incredibly unfunny. I can't say I have that high expectations. Kyu Angry Atheism

Well considering the last series was in 1999 I'd have to say that the special effects were probably still low par.

Yeah, I got what you said, but I think the special effects were still rubbish by the end of the series, and so they didn't change the way I viewed the show. Of course the effects got slightly better, but they were still in a rubbish ship cockpit made of cardboard surrounded by flashing buttons which of course made the whole thing a lot more homely and funny!
I don't like Red Dwarf. Some episodes were okay, but meh..
And three years of seeing Craig Charles off-camera will cure anyone from being a fan of him.
